I am finding it hard to get a straight answer on caffine.  I know its a diuretic but can it cause ulcers.  I just love my coffee.

Actually, recent research shows it is an extremely mild diuretic and a couple cups of coffee a day would not cause any problem with fluid loss.

As far as ulcers, it probably doesn't cause them but may aggrevate one that is already forming.

My opinion is that in moderation, it's OK.

Yes it's considered true. I know my surgeon prefers that all of his patients refrain from regular coffee for several months post op.  There are differing opinions on whether you can have regular coffee forever though.  Caffeine also depletes inositol in your system, a little know sub B vitamin that is in 100mg doses in most multivitamins.  My surgeon says one 8 oz cup of coffee daily is not an issue, but to increase your water intake by 16 oz that day if you drink coffee.  This cup of coffee is typical caffeine levels, not those "high test" designer coffees in many coffee shops. I drank decaffeinated coffee for around 4 months post op, but have since drank standard coffee, with no ill effects.  DAVE

I waited about 6 months post-op before drinking it again. My surgeon believes it also increases appetite. I'm over 3 years out now and drink tons of it with no ill effects.
