My arse. My poor arse.
How terrifying! I was awake for a previous endoscopy. After telling my current GI about it he made sure to reassure me that I would be unaware for my most recent endoscopy. They used propofol and it was great! I wasn't drowsy afteward and I don't remember anything from the procedure expcept the burning when they pushed the propofol in. Not everyone feels the burn, but i have ****ty veins so of course I did.
I'm supposed to have a colonoscopy next month and you can bet your ass (pun slightly intended) that I'll be asking for propofol.

Beth, let's combine our guts! Mine absorbes EVERYTHING that's supposed to knock you out and magnifies it. After surgery, I effectively have chemical narcolepsy for days: I keep falling asleep at weird times and with no warning.
If we put the two of us together, we might have one normal response to sedatives!

I'm so sorry that happened to you! I was pretty darn awake for my preop Endoscopy also and was fairly traumatized from it. However my husband has Ulcerative Colitis and sees the same GI doc, same "twilighted" protocol, and has never had a problem with his colonoscopies. My only colonoscopy was done by a colorectal surgeon in a hospital.... which makes me want to write on my medic alert card "Do anything to me, just knock me the F- out!!!!".
