and to be honest.. aside from the cost Im a little excited. All the calcium citrate chewable choices look Yummmm-E! Im leaning twords the Bariatric Advantage Chewy Bites (cant decide which flavor yet, i want them all).

I know we're supposed to have 2000 mg. a day and the B.A. Chewy Bites are only

250 mg. each. Thats 8 chews a day. 240 a month. 60 chews cost $12 = $48.00 a month.

Do I HAVE to take chewables? I swallow pills NO PROBLEM.

Can I take Citrical? Citracal Maximum provides 630 mg of calcium per caplet and 180 caplets are $15.00. Thats 3 caplets a day. 90 a month. Which breaks down to $7.50/month Right?

Can I absorb these coated caplets?

1500-2000 mg a day, according to the ASMBS.  500 mg or so at a time.

You do not have to take chewables.  Any calcium CITRATE is fine.

Citracal is 630 mg per TWO caplets.  Not one.  Labels on calcium are often tricky that way.

Lots of us use a variety of calcium supplements.  I use the chewy ones sometimes because they are yummy but I also use Upcal D (it's a powder) other times because it's easy and cheaper.

Oh Kelly Im sooo glad you responded!

Can I absorb the citrical caplets just as well as the chewable?
And oh boy! Thanks for the heads up on the 2 pills instead of one for the 630 mg. It's still cheaper than the chews though.

Thanks again!

Yeah, you'll absorb them just fine.

And if you look for a generic calcium citrate, which most stores will have right by the Citracal, you'll save money.  Just check the label to be sure it's CITRATE, not carbonate.

Liz, just to warn you the chewy bites have a lot of sugar alcohol especially if you take 4 or more a day. I bought some and they are yummy but they give me terrible gas! It was soooooo bad! now I only take them about once a week as a treat. If you do want chewable I like the BA chewable in mint. The cherry is very tart. Good luck to you!

Thank you and good to know. Sugar alcohols DO give me gas! Ive decided to go with the pill form for the cost factor.

Wellesse is calcium citrate AND tricalcium phosphate.  We don't absorb tricalcium phosphate.
