My doctor says calcium in the morning and evening and iron at noon.  He also said no vitamins until two weeks after surgery.

We need calcium three or four times a day.  The ASMBS says we need 1500-2000 mg a day and we can only absorb about 500 mg at a time.

The ASMBS also says to start our multi and iron as soon as we are discharged from the hospital.

Iron does not affect the absorption of calcium.  Calcium, more than about 300 mg, blocks the absorption of iron.
