How much work did you miss after RNY?

I too am a lapband revision to RNY.  I was in hospital only 2.5 days.  I was off work for 17 days.

I have a desk job.  Not many people knows about my surgery, but I suspect they may  know, though.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

I to was considered a revision since the band was removed in 2009 due to erosion and there are a few more risks of leakage so yeah they kept the drain in longer.   I had surgery on December 28 and can honestly tell ou that today is the first day I know that's could have gotten up and gone to work.   I week and 1 day...I think you will be okay but remember everyone heals different.  Hope you have a smooth surgery!

I am still a pre-op for a lap RNY, but my dr said I would have to be off work for min 6 weeks since I do heavy lifting (I'm a nurse and have to be able to lift 50+ lbs). He says for people without heavy lifting they can go back to work 2-4 weeks post op.

Hope for the best, but plan for the worst. You can't know whether or not complications will keep you home longer than planned. If you have the option of taking extra time off unpaid, be prepared for it. But if your situation makes that too difficult, consider waiting. You certainly don't want to force yourself back to work before your body can handle it.

wow 3 months! If you don't mind me asking, what complications did you have?

The worst case of pneumonia ever.  I ended up in the hospital for three weeks, in intensive care on a respirator for several days.  I had to have lung surgery to clean the infected gunk out of my left lung.  I was still really weak when I was discharged from the hospital, and the incision from the lung surgery wasn't healing well, possibly due to lack of protein and vitamins at that point.  I had to have a home health nurse comes daily to change my dressing and a home health aide to help me bathe.  I work from home on my laptop and it was almost three months after my RNY before I was strong enough to do any work again.

I had a few post surgical complications, so I'm glad I had three weeks. It will be 4 weeks before I travel for my job.
Don't ask me how we lost to Baylor.  I can't figure it Out either!

I only took four days off but that was because I had Christmas break built into my schedule. I was off from Dec 23 - January 2. Sometimes there are perks to being a teacher and honestly I did not want to give up my summer break, I love the beach and spend the entire summer there. I came back to work Tuesday Jan 3 and was exhausted by the end of the school day, yesterday I was tired and pale but today I look and feel much better. My students have been great and I get them to do any moving of instruments, stands, chairs, etc and I sit as much as I can. No complications so I feel blessed. I did not tell my co workers or students about the rny instead I told my principals that my gall bladder had to be removed. Hope this helps!
