Pre-op liquid diet morning of day 5 and I've lost...

13 pounds!!!

Here I am halfway through day 5, I jumped on the scale at 11:30am at my pre-op appointment w/the anesthesiologist's nurse this morning and I expected maybe 6 to 7 pounds loss, with half of it being fluid but nope, 13 pounds gone.

This is good and bad for me to know.  Good because I know I'm not suffering in vain.  Bad, because that naughty little voice in the back of my head is telling me I can have more calories and still lose.  I'd give anything for some solid food.  The battle continues...

For anyone that is on liquids, I recommend making triple thick protein shakes. They taste like a milk shake.

add 1 scoop protein power to 8 oz skim milk and put in your blender.  Blend on HIGH, ice crush, whatever, for 2  minutes.  time it to make sure it is 2 full minutes.  Then add ice cubes, 2 -6, and blend again until they are crushed.

You get cool milkshake type drink.  There are many receipies for shakes.

This isn't my idea, but I tell everyone about it.

Read all about it here:

Whoa! I'm on day 10 and I've only lost 8 pounds, and I am doing this thing RELIGIOUSLY.  To a friggin TEE.  Not a single morsel of solid food in 10 days.  Nothin' but liquids.

You can't compare your loss to someone else's. I think it depends a lot on how much weigh the person has lost pre-op, how much weight they need to lose, maybe even their atge, etc.

I'm doing a pre-op liquid diet right now and haven't lost much at all yet.

Don't feel bad...I only lost about 6 lbs on the liquid diet...but after surgery it was just falling off...6 weeks out and down nearly 50 lbs. :D Hang in there.

How many calories do you take in each day?  I took in 350 on Mon, 325 Tue, 495 Weds, and 425 on Thurs.   Today will be higher, though. I "cheated".  I had some extra soup broth from my son's actual chicken soup and a few pieces of celery/carrots in it.  However, today was also the most active I've been out of the last 5 days.

I wish I understood the mechanism of this whole diet.  If it's just fewer calories and weightloss that shrinks the liver, why must it be only liquids?  Not understanding this is frustrating to me.

A fair bit more than that.  Each scoop of protein powder is 100, and I have 3 of those (300 calories).  I use 12 oz of skim milk twice a day (270 calories), and a lot of SF Jello (up to 80 calories).  So probably about 650 altogether.

And there are days I don't move at all because of migraines.  (But yesterday I walked almost 2 miles, and I've had long walks several other days too.)

Way to go! I added extra protein powder to my shakes...kept me full and didn't crave much solid food. However...I remember I wanted so bad just to lick a cheeseburger! LOL But now...I cannot even eat one. Nor do I even want one...so it will all work out. You are doing great!!
