Who knows.  My surgeon isn't on top of Vitamins and the needs.  He says all I really need is 1 multi vitamin, calcium and B12.  He even prescribed me calcium carbonate. ( I know better than that)    But its a military hospital, and he does bariatric surgeries but is also a general surgeon.  I just hope and pray his other patients are like me and research everything for their own needs.

Thanks for posting this information! So this may sound dumb, but I'm going to say/ask it anyway ;-).

I have a sublingual B12 supplement but as soon as I put it under my tongue, it makes me salivate from the slightly tart taste. If I'm constantly swallowing (not a lot, but more than when the B12 is not under my tongue), am I still absorbing the B12 properly under my tongue or am I swallowing it in my saliva?

Hmmm.  That's not dumb, it's a good question.  I would think you're still absorbing it, but when you get labs done, you'll know for sure.

Great information, Kelly. Thanks for sharing. I wish I had known this information years ago.

My DH has been having trouble with numbness in his hands since 2007. He went to orthopedists, neurologists, hand specialists, and others. He was told it was everything from a pinched nerve in his neck, to one in his elbow, to Multiple Sclerosis.

Recently he started experiencing the same tingling in his feet. He went to a general practitioner who sent him for lab work and determined he had a B12 deficiency.

Something so simple, but misdiagnosed for so long, has done permanent damage. He has permanent nerve damage in his fingertips.

I hate to hear this.  Glad someone finally figured it out though.

My surgeon actually prescribes a b12 pill that includes intrinsic factor. They check labs a lot and says most do ok with this, but if levels drop then they will do something else. I don't like that it also includes iron and c, because it's not the iron I like. I'm going to ask them about going to OTC things next time I am in.

That's interesting.  I never heard of that before.  You get it by prescription?  What's it called?  I wonder why they have iron in it?

Thanks.  I wonder if it is more effective than sublinguals, or about the same?  Is it more expensive than sublinguals?
