when did you begin eating lettuce again?
As far as I know, all of the shots are collagen protein (not a great quality protein to begin with) and none of them have all the necessary amino acids. There was a new one claiming to have all the amino acids, but the manufacturer has not responded to phone calls or emails from multiple people asking for detailed nutritional info showing that to be the case. That, to me, means they probably have something to hide, because nothing would boost their sales more than being able to show a large WLS community like OH that their product IS appropriate for us!
It would be great if you would ask about the amino acid issue and let us know what they say if they still think these are ok (why they think they are still ok). Be sure to ask if they are aware that the PDCAAS score is so pathetically low (note that sometimes the scale used is shown as 0-100 and sometimes it is 0-1, using decimal values. It is the same score, just adjusted because some people prefer non-decimals values for readability). For a frame of reference, the score for milk protein and soy protein are 1.0 (or 100), beef is .92 (92), legumes .7 (70). So you can see how useless the .08 (8) is in comparison. Note that I inadvertantly typed 1% in my original response instead of 10%.

Hi Lora,
During my follow up visit yesterday, I asked more questions as to why I was told Body Fortress would be okay for me to get my protein in. Essentially, I was told that Body Fortress has a 1/3 portion of whey, collagen and some other kind of protein (?) plus it has some of the amino acids that breakdown the protein that our bodies need. Although I'm not getting the 26g of protein BF claims to provide, I am getting about 10grams which my doctor felt was better than nothing if I was having trouble getting protein in from BA protein shakes.
I also got a long explanation about how amino acids work and how our bodies need some additional ones now that they don't produce their own...or something like that. Can't remember all of the details.
Anyway, long story short...Body Fortress is not the ideal way to get protein as it's not 100% whey, but it does breakdown and give you some protein. I ended up buying the single serving bottles of the Bariactric Advantage Meal Replacement Protein drink since we absorb 100% of the whey protein contained in those protein drinks. And, I think they said something about the manufacturing process adding back in additional amino acids to that protein mixture that are specifically needed for WLS patients.
So, I'm now getting my protein from the REAL protein drinks we need. Surprisingly, I'm able to stomach these now that I'm no longer feeling nauseated.
