This is really the only board I have even lurked on sinc emy rny 6-1-11.  Any way.........so I am switching jobs, no lapse in insurance.  I am already down 100 lbs and know i will have to get my skin removed and that was covered on my old plan.  The new company Citigroup doesnt even address this and are there scenarios where they will cover the skin removal but not the surgery? is the pre-existing? does it matter?  I'm sure i'm in the wrong place for this question but if you could redirect me that would be awesome too :)

Thanks so much!!!

Hi Virginia

I am sure you just need to call Citigroup. Actually talk to someone, you might ask for bariatric group. Most insurance groups have a bariatric section now.

Good Luck

Since you have no lapse in insurance, there would be no pre-existing condition issues -- your new insurance would have to cover anything that is covered by the new policy even if it was related to something that occurred under the old policy. However, they do not have to cover anything that is specifically excluded by the new policy, whether it's a new issue or a pre-existing one. Your new policy may not specifically address excess skin removal, but is likely to have a plastic and/or cosmetic surgery exclusion, which is where excess skin removal falls unless you can prove medical necessity for the removal. You will need to talk to your new insurance company to get more details on exclusions in the policy. You will probably need to submit medical records for a pre-determination to get them to cover the skin removal as medically necessary.
