I don't know what all of these abbreviations stand for, so I am not really sure what I am looking at. Can you let me know what you think about my results and maybe what some of these abbreviations mean? I do know my B12 and Vit D levels are good. My doc actually said it was the best Vit D level he has seen! WooHoo! And he did not balk at how much I am taking either. Oh and is Vit B1 Biotin?

Edited to add: My surgeon said he won't see me back again for a whole year! Is this the norm? How often should I be having my labs run? Should I get my PCP to do it? Thanks.

Your D and B12 are both beautiful.  I bet that is the best D he's seen.  Glad he didn't freak at how much you take.

B1 is thiamine.  Biotin is B7.

Your iron and ferritin are good.

I don't see a total protein but your albumin is great so my guess is you are getting plenty of protein.

Are you taking a B complex?  If you are, you might wanna stop it for a while since your B1 and folate (B9) are both high.  If not.  I wouldn't worry about them being high, personally.

Thanks Kelly! And no, I am not taking a B complex, just Biotin. As for the Vit D, I had been taking 10,000 a day because my level had been low. I just ordered Vitalady's 50,000 so should I just take 1 a week since I had been getting 70,000 a week? Do you think that would be enough to keep my level high? And where can I find out what all of those abbreviations are because I have no idea what most of them mean! By the way, thanks for all of the good vitamin advice. If it weren't for you my D level would probably still be low.

Maybe you want to alternate taking one this week, two next week, one the following week, etc.

Try labtestsonline.org/.  You can look up a lot of info on a lot of tests.

I am not a doc and i don't know what your cholesterol was before do you know?  I would be curious to see if this has drastically dropped or not?  I also know i have had high cholesterol forever so i can't wait to see my numbers now.  But i would have thought yours would be creeping more towards the normal range with the types of food you now eat and the exercise you get....

  • Desirable: A cholesterol below 200 mg/dL (5.18 mmol/L) is considered desirable and reflects a low risk of heart disease.
  • Borderline high: A cholesterol of 200 to 239 mg/dL (5.18 to 6.18 mmol/L) is considered to reflect moderate risk. Your doctor may decide to order a lipid profile to see if your high cholesterol is due to the amount of bad cholesterol (high LDL-C) or good cholesterol (high HDL-C) in your blood. Depending on the results of the lipid profile (and any other risk factors you may have), your doctor will decide what to do.
Otherwise good job on the others.  I have not had labs taken at all either..Next month i go in for my 6 month and i am assuming they do it then.

I would ask for them to be ordered.  Usually they are done before six months.

Funny you ask...I had high cholesterol before surgery, don't remember the exact numbers (I'd have to go dig out my records) and 2 months after surgery I had my PCP check my labs and my cholesterol had dropped and was in the normal range. I was a little baffled why it has gone up. My PCP said some people just naturally make more cholesterol and is hereditary (which it is in my family). She started me back on Pravastatin but at a lower dosage than I was on before surgery (my surgeon had told me to stop taking it before I came home from the hospital. Anyways, today my surgeon said it was not that bad and that he would not have recommended I go back on medicine for it. However he was sure to say that he was not going against my PCP and that he would allow her to monitor/treat it. However he told me that as my weight drops further, that those numbers should go down. I asked him how i will know if it's the meds that is bringing the level down and not just the weight loss and he said that is one reason he would advise against taking meds for it but that I could mention this to my PCP and see what she says. I persoanlly would like to go off it as I have too many pills to take now the way it is. I am going to make a more conscious effort to choose more low fat products over regular as I have been eating full fat cheeses and cottage cheese. I just can't stand the taste of low fat/no fat cottage cheese yet want to eat it because it is so high in protein. Whenever I would buy low fat cottage cheese (and I've tried no fat, 1% and 2%), it ususally sits in my fridge and then goes bad. I can stomach the 2% if I add fruit with it but I try not to eat a lot of fruit. Oh well, I dunno. Will just have to try harder to watch the fats and get more exercise.

I think i have to say i love cottage cheese and full fat cheeses and i DO eat some full fat cheese but i tend to look for low fat.  i grew up on all whole milk products and i remember finally telling my mom that they really needed to start drinking 2 % milk.  lol  So i have to say Weigh****chers didn't work well for me but i sure learned how to eat and prepare food using it and thats been a Godsend.  I am a former coca cola classic girl who would swear to never ever drink diet coke.  I still do not drink diet coke or any other diet soda's but somehow i managed to start adding light things to my diet and eventually i guess i just got used to them.  I will NOT eat FF cheese...skim milk...anything less than 2% cottage cheese though as i think taste is compromised.  I do eat light salad dressings, light mayo, light margerine..etc...start out small and work your way up.  It will be a huge help in the long run.  Oh and because i didn't like that aftertaste from diet soda i tried aquafina flavor splash and i could drink that with no aftertaste and i just eventually tried chrystal lights also with no problems.
