For those that need a vitamin schedule

It looks as though I am doing this all wrong - I have been taking all of my chewable or dissolvable just before I drink my lunch....I am 3 weeks out and cannot swallow pills I don't think.  My schedule is this:
Morning - Nexium mups dissolved in water
Drink breakfast
Drink water
Take 2500mcg B-12,1000mcg biotin, multi vitamin (opurity bariatric vitamin - has 30 mg iron) 2 Viactive calcium chewable (500 IU with Vitamin D and Vitamin K each), 1 Calcium caltrate gummy bite and 40mg Prozac that I melt into water into a spoon (YUK).
Drink lunch
Drink dinner
-Getting about 80 grams protein per day.

Are my vitamins not absorbing if I am taking them this way?  Do we include the calcium we get in milk, soy milk, and yogurt?

And btw, all the chewable and dissolvable vitamins equal 80 calories, which I would rather not be adding to my diet!  How long 'til I can swallow pills?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!  :)

Well, first of all, the type of calcium you are taking is calcium carbonate, which we cannot absorb because we don't make enough stomach acid anymore.  We need calcium CITRATE.

We can only absorb about 500 mg of that at a time, so we need to take it three or four times a day to get the 1500-2000 mg calcium citrate the ASMBS recommends.  And no, we don't count the calcium in our food.  That's how much calcium citrate we need, from supplements.

Also, if you take your iron with calcium, the calcium will block the absorption of the iron.  So you will need to take that multi at least two hours away from your calcium citrate.  You'll need to take additional iron, too, 30 mg is not enough.  The ASMBS says menstruating women need 54-63 mg iron a day, and everyone else needs 36 mg.

Oh... the ASMBS says we can start swallowing our vitamins as soon as we can tolerate it.  The only way to know if you tolerate it is to try it and see how it goes.  Many of us were swallowing pills in the hospital the same day we had surgery or the day after.

Wow...thank you so much!  No more chocolate Viactive though :(  I will try swallowing prozac tomorrow, I cannot stand the taste of it melted in water.  Ugh!  Thanks again!
