I haven't had a BM since the day before surgery.   When did you have your first movement after surgery?  I don't want to have rocks in my intestines.

I had diarrhea for a week after surgery. Then got constipated. It maybe that since all you are taking in is fluids that you have nothing that needs to come out?

Maybe put a call in to the surgeon and ask what you should do.

I will share what happened to me in the hope it prevents you from experiencing it. My surgery was on jan 10. I came home on jan 12 and that night had an absolutely horrible time with extreme constipation. I was seriously considering going to the er but I took a healthy dose of Phillips milk of magnesia and within about an hour things began to move. I did have rocks and there were several more movements over the next twelve hours before total relief. I was told that the liquid they use for the leak tests plus anesthesia and pain meds together with your body being in shock all add up to what happened. Fortunately now nearly three weeks out no more episodes. Good luck and God bless.

It was around day 5 I believe. I had to take some MOM like the previous poster. I still don't go everyday, now its like every other on average. That is with Benefiber and stool softners!

The doctor sent me home with a stool softener that I took twice a day.  Had my first BM 4 days after surgery,  but it wasn't much.  Now I take 1 a day,  have been pretty normal.

We had our surgery the same day.  I am struggling.  I have taken liquid colace.  Still struggling.  I have since take MOM  hoping it wil help.  We will see in the next few hours.  IF I knew it was going to be this hard I would have started the liquid colace as soon as I got home.

Good Luck

for me it was 8 days and a horrible miserable experience.  I took several laxatives.  Now I take a stool softener every other day and benefiber the other days.

Sorry you are having trouble. :(

I had constipation issues before surgery, but I was assured afterwards that wouldn't be a problem. Wrong! After 6 days, with no BM, I had to take milk of magnesia twice to get rid of the 'rocks'. A painful experience, that I do not want to have again! Now, I take Miralx, 2 colace and magnesium oxide daily and I go every other day.
