Dr Oz did a cool show on gastric bypass!!

I am with the nay sayers to the show, he made it sound like a walk in the park , even though he said it IS surgery.
I wish he would have talked about some of the complications other than leakage that happens in the first 2 weeks. On all of his shows he never goes into depth just skims the top of issues and he did it again with this one.

I also just went to Dr. Oz's web site and registered and I can find nowhere where you can make comments...gee I wonder why
I am in line to have my band removed and am going to have bypass , the illistration was good and that was about it, just a rah rah show

I liked the surgery part a lot! It was like, "soooo, that's what happened inside me". Seeing the surgery had a deeper effect on me than the illustrations because I've seen those in a lot of places.
I also liked what he said about the stigma society tries to attach to this surgery.
It is true that he didn't do an indepth review of complications, but he has a point of view and THAT he presented well in the limited time he had.
Great discussion, everybody!

While I was out on leave after my surgery, I got to see a lot of Dr. Oz. I have to say I am not a huge fan. He seems to always gloss over the importance of every topic. I agree that he should dedicate a whole hour to each topic rather than briefly mention things. It is almost dangerous medicine by giving half-truthes.
I found it interesting just because there was finally someone in the medical community on tv that finally was pro gastric bypass. The first surgeon went over some of the complications and the importance of taking vitamins and following a proper meal plan for life - he was not only a surgeon but also a WLS patient.
The second part is what really fascinated me because Dr Marc Bessler the surgeon that they profiled from Columbia Presbyterian in NYC that discussed the surgery, the information on the disapperance of diabetes and actually operated on video was my surgeon.
I didn't understand how that woman gained back all her weight because she didnt' look that oveweight. I do agree with the part that most people go home on no diabetes meds - I know I did and within 2 months my HA1C was 5.0 = now it is 4.7 - 3 years out.
It would have been nice if they went into more detail but I guess they can only do so much in 30 minutes but it was a start and much better than anything Oprah and Dr Phil ever did
