open procedure question
I have some questions for those of you who had an open procedure
I had mine on the 23rd of jan and I am still having pain. Its not in my incision but to the right of it up by my ribs It's not all the time but if I walk fo rmore then 20 mins or so I really feel it it almost feels like my stomach is moving around?? I am just strange???
Also how long did it take you to get energy back I read here about people going back to work in a couple of weeks and I am amazed. i couldn't anyway beacuse I have a physical job but I just don't think I would be able to make it all day without streching out in bed
Thanks for any insight

It sounds like you are having gas pain to me. I had open RNY 14 months ago. I had right side pain under the rib cage and it radiated up to my shoulder. It's completely normal. For the first month I had lots of gas pain. Actually...walking is one of the best ways to get the gas moving, making it easier for your body to get rid of it. I've heard that Gas-X helps...but it never seemed to do much for me. Walk as much as you can. It really does help!
It took me a long time to get my energy back...at least 2 months. Open RNY surgery has a longer recovery time than laproscopic surgery. Give it time. I promise you will feel a little better everyday! Good luck!

I would definitely expect that you would still be having pain after open surgery less than 2 weeks ago!! Most people have lap surgery, so when you read about epople going abck to work after only a couple of weeks, it is unlikely to be someone who had open surgery (but people occasionally DO).
I did not experience the moving pain you are describing, but after my open surgery I was off work for 7 weeks (an extra week because of significant incision oozing) and was still pretty worn out when I returned to work. I also slept in my LaZBoy for over a month because it hurt too much to stretch out flat or lie on my side in bed.
Does this happen to you both before and after you eat? Just wondering if it is food in the intestine that you feel moving...? With open surgery, it shouldn't be gas up that high still (the gas in your intestines would be lower down by now and you abdominal cavity doesn't get fuilled with gas like with lap surgery). Perhaps it is just your body's way of telling you that 20 minutes is your limit right now...? I was told as much walking early out as I could tolerate, but not to pu****

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I had an extremely complicated "open" surgery on Dec. 12th. The pain you are talking about is normal or at least normal to me. I still have it. I don't know if its a hernia or some sort of muscle issue. As far as energy is concerned, I am just now getting some! So hang in there and my best to you. Whatever you do, get that protein in.
