is awfully good.  This second batch turned out much better and much thicker than my first batch.  Because i bought a yogurt incubator.  It helps to have it heat at an even temp. rather than use a electric heater that turns off after two hours..lol   Anyways, HM yogurt is awesome especially mixed with some strawberrys soaked in a tsp of splenda.

I missed the post on how to do it.  Is it difficult to make?  I do not like to cook, so if it takes a lot of steps I probably would not want to do it.....however.....I generally eat 2 containers of Fage each day, so I might reconsider.  I love yogurt.  How does the taste of homemade compare to the various brands out there?

Well its easy to make really.  I use my double cooker...put 4 cups of milk into the top, bring the bottom water to a boil and stir it on and off.  My directions say to heat the milk to about 185.  Then i put the hot pan of milk into another pan filled with ice and water and bring the temp of the milk down to 110.  You then add like 1/4 cup of plain yogurt (it should say contains active cultures on the label), i used the great value brand yogurt, to the cooled milk.  Then there are several ways to incubate it.  I bought a yogurt incubator because it says that the mixture needs to stay at a constant 110 degrees.  Some bring a crockpot with some water on the bottom to a temp of 110 and put their container of yogurt in there.  Some put a heating pad on a board and put their pan on that covered with a towel.  Anyways its suppose to sit undisturbed for about 6 or 7 hours.  Then you need to put it in the fridge for at least 3 hours but overnight is best.  It doesn't turn out as thick as the store because i don't add anything to it to get it really thickened like the stuff in the store but its awesome.  If you want greek yogurt then you need to strain it through cheesecloth or coffee filters for like 3 hours.  The taste of homemade is much better in my opinion.  Its smoother and i can control how tart it gets by how long i incubate it.  Its rather easy to make..

Yogurt is so easy to make and only takes a bit of time. I make a gallon or two at a time so I'm not making it all the time. Mine turns out nice and thick and if its not thick enough for your liking you can strain it. It keeps well in the fridge but we eat it fast enough it doesn't have a chance to age.
The taste blows commercial bought yogurt out of the water! My husband won't touch store bought yogurt anymore. You can choose the quality of your ingredients and amount.

I just recently started making my own yogurt and I love it too.  The first couple batches weren't so good but then I got all the kinks worked out.  Actually, I plan to make some later today!
