Stricture - Please Help

Tuesday will make one month post-op for me.  For the last three weeks, when people ask how I'm doing, I've been able to say something like "physically, I'm doing fine - but the mental part of this is very challenging."  And, although the mental aspects of post WLS remain challenging (see my other posts), I've begun to experience what I believe is a physical challenge as well.  Starting mid last week, I began tossing up almost anything I ate.  Keep in mind, I was doing so well up to that point and had no nausea, vomitting or dumping whatsoever.  Now, I've vomitted water a few times and today tried to have a scrambled egg with the same result.  When things come up, they come up looking exactly how they did when they went down, so I'm sure they aren't going into my digestive system at all.  I simply gag for a while until I can't take it anymore and decide to go to the bathroom and relieve myself.

I called the hospital tonight and was pleased to find out that my surgeon was on call.  I was immediately connected with him and he said he thinks I have a stricture, which he said usually forms 4-6 weeks out.  He said someone will call me in the morning to have this taken care of, which will involve scoping the area and dilating if necessary.  He said it is minimally invasive and nothing to worry about.

Has anyone else experienced this?  What am I in for?  I'm obviously concerned with my overall health since I can't ingest any food.  Any thoughts/suggestions/kind words would help.  Thank you.

I have read alot of posts about strictures and it seems to be an easy fix. You will be eating well soon.

I had a stricture at 7 weeks out. The fix is easy and the relief you feel afterwards is priceless.
I would suggest you try keeping with warm liquids for the rest of today, to keep yourself hydrated as much as possible.
The scope and dilation for me was less than 20 minutes. No pain, no memory of the scope.

It really is just a speed numb on this journey. You will do great.

Hi there -- I am two years out now, but at one month out I had a stricture too. Exact same symptoms as yours. You are sedated when they do the scope and as the previous poster said, you will have no memory. They will dialate the opening, and in my case, they had to do the same thing the next week to open it just a little bit more. Be aware that some people have to get dialated more than once. After that, I was good to go! Simple and quick.

I had a stricture at three months.

Totally resolved. Very common. You'll be fine.
