You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I sorta bought a cow.

I joined a herdshare program.  In Ohio, you cannot legally buy raw milk.  But if you own a cow, you can drink the milk from your cow.  So some farmers set up herdshares.  I bought one share in a herd of 70 dairy cows for $60.  Then I pay a monthy boarding fee of $22, which entitles me to one gallon of milk per week.

Check out these two websites:

If you see a farm on there (and there are several I saw in Florida) that is near you but it doesn't say they do herdshares, contact them anyway and ask if they do or if they know who might.  Or, if you see a farm that is a few hours away, contact them and ask if they know anyone closer.  That's actually how I found mine - I started buying eggs from one farm but they did not do herdshares.  But I asked if they had any suggestions and they referred me to the guy I buy from now.

I'm just thrilled with it and would be glad to talk to you about it further if you have any questions.
