Just wanted to know what kind of protein you prefer post-op?  I know taste changes after surgery and I am planning on getting some packets first because I don't like throwing my money away but just wanted to get a variety and where was a good place to get it from.  I know some of the protein powders are avaiable at Walmart and is there somewhere online that I could order a variety of packets from without paying alot?  Thanks for all your help.  Just want to be prepared postop.

Hi Wanda,

I replied to a  post you made earlier today , I guess you didnt see it. Anyway, I'll post again.. hope it helps.

Getting protein samples is a great idea vs the big containers. It's good you're aware that your taste can change after surgery. Some folks become lactose intolerant, so you might want to explore some that aren't mixed with milk, or try milk alternatives. Vitalady is a great site because she has lots of samples to choose from. https://vitalady.com/

Protein really is a matter of personal taste. Lots of people hate my favorite protein, but I'd be lost without it (Syntrax Lemon Iced Tea). The samples are the cheapest way to try different protein drinks until you find the ones that suit your taste.

When I use protein powder I like vanilla mixed in with sf syrup then added to coffee.  I have used several brands,  I don't seem to have an issue with any of them.

Protein bars I prefer Pure Protein (Sam's Club) or Quest (online only at questproteinbar.com).  Both have 20 g. of protein in each bar and very low sugar and net carbs.

I must be a bit committment-phobic, but i won't buy a big jug of anything.  I like the GNC proteins, but buy only the 1lb bags at a time.  LOVE the Celebrate ENS shakes (thanks Kelly) that are protein with mulit and calcium.  But get the sampler pack.  10 of each of the flavors (choc. straw, vanilla).

Also get the sampler of the Syntrax nectar too.

but that is just me.

I can tell you that you should be careful because of taste changes post op.  Before surgery, I was using Isopure protein powder.  I could tolerate all flavors.  That is one that they recommend for WLS patients because of no carbs and sugar.  However, after surgery I could not tolarate Isopure at all in any flavor.  I'd take one sip of it and vomit.  I tried mixing them different ways and the result was the same.  I know use the GNC 100% Whey protein (unflavored)  I like the unflavored because you can add it to pretty much anything!  I add it to smoothies, coffee, oatmeal, broth etc.

I'm pre-op also and like others have said I am order a lot of samples from different places. If you do a search here on OH you'll come across a lot of older posts that give lists of different websites that either sell or give away samples of different protein products/vitamins.

I must say thanks to this site I have almost a cabinet full of samples and I haven't spent very much for them!
