Another Day, Another Hernia Surgery

Not quite really but I am having a repeat performance of my original hernia surgery from last April.  It is an incisional hernia and I redid it by picking up my boyfriend's 30 lb, 7 month old grand daughter.   I guess I am going to have to watch the lifting from now on.
The last surgery was as easy as pie.  I stayed overnight but I really could have gone home the same day.  I felt fine as soon as I woke up.  The only reason I was kept overnight was because I had an epidural, which came out anyway so I told them I didn't want one this time so hopefully I should be able to go home the same day.
I always get in a lot of protein.  I average about 150 grams a day.  With the last surgery I was starting to heal by the time I woke up from recovery.  The incision was already starting to scab.  It was totally healed in days, I'm not kidding.  I hope things are as good this time.
Anyway, I would appreciate any good thoughts or prayers.  No matter how routine it may seem surgery is serious business and not to be taken lightly.  I hate to sound morbid but there is always a fear that things could go wrong and I won't wake up or I could suffer a serious complication.

Sending well-wishes your way!

My mom is having hernia repair surgery on Friday. Hers is an incisional hernia from gallbladder removal 10 or so years ago. She was lifting heavy stone pavers when hers popped. She really should have known better!

Here's hoping for a completely ordinary, non-remarkable surgery for the both of you, followed by a speedy recovery.

Sending healing thoughts and prayers.  Hope all goes well.  Think positive thoughts - you'll be fine.

OK, so I have to ask - a 30 lb. 7 month old????

Yup, 30 lbs.  She is a little butterball.  I love chubby babies.  Her grandpa is so afraid she will have a weight problem when she grows up but as she gets older (she's close to a year now) and more active her weight is closing in on her height.

Has the surgeon considered using mesh to keep the hernia from recurring?  Good luck.

We talked about it but he said he would decide when he was in there.  I don't know if I want it or not.  Does it really make a difference?

In terms of preventing recurrence, yes.  As with anything, though, there can be complications involving mesh.  I had it put in wih my original hernia repair (incisional hernia from open  RNY), but then 2 years later had a complication that my surgeon had never seen or heard of before... but while it was in there I never worried about the hernia recurring no matter what I did!
