HELP!!!!! Trouble with losing weight...pre-op
I am currently trying to lose weight before my surgery but i have edema in my legs that keeps adding weight back on me. I have cut out the salt! reading everything, working out and nothing is helping. I gained 4 pounds since Monday mornng. I am so frustrated. I don't want my surgeon thinkng I am not doing enough. I am waiting on approval for my surgery to schedule the date. That is all that is left. I started at 265.3 lbs and got down to 254 lbs but now back up to 258 lbs. Any suggestions. Not sure how much he wants me to lose before hand. I feel like such a failure. I have only been doing this since the first of January. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't feel like a failure!! What I did was follow the post-op plan of 64 ounces of water, gave up the soda completely (I was a diet coke addict, 8-10 cans a day) and really looked at what I was eating. I upped my protein and decreased the simple carbs. No pasta, bread and gave up my much loved butter. I never really liked sweets so that was an easy one to give up.
I am sure that your Dr will understand the edema. Does upping your water intake help with the edema?

I quit everything and if I don't drink water then I am having unsweetened tea for a change up. I think sometimes I am not eating enough but I can't get in my 64 ounces of water it is more like maybe 30-40 ounces a day, and working out I thought maybe I might be adding muscle weight. I am losing inches but feel really bloated this week. I have had a headache all week which might be dehyradtion but not sure. Also I am waiting on my approval for my surgery since all else is finished and maybe nerves is taking over. I just feel like I am not acheiving much.
I would bet that if you are working out and only getting in 30-40 ounces of water than you very well may be dehydrated. If you up your water (non-caffeine) intake to 60-80 a day I think that you will feel better and lose some of tha****er weight.
You will add muscle (and muscle adds weight, but that is good weight) but getting used to the higher water intake is really important. At first I had a shot glass that I drew a line on with a marker that showed 2 ounces
I set a timer to fill and drink from it every 20 minutes. Two ounces every 20 minutes is 10 ounces an hour. It makes it much less daunting than looking at a 16 ounce bottle and thinking "How in the world am I going to drink 5 of these???"
When the shot glass got boring at the end of thee day, I drank my water from a martini glass, LOL!!

You seem to be following your doctors requirements for pre op. I had the same problem up and down with the weight for my pre op. Try to up your work outs I walked mostly and it is really important to get the water intake, not to mention this is so important for your post op, as this is just a few of the things you will have to do for the rest of your life. Good luck with your new journey,
Clear fluid is your best friend when it comes to any sort of edema. You need to drin****il you feel as if you are going to float, aim for 60-100 oz a day. You body will retain fluid if it is unsure if it is going to get more fluid, icreasing the swelling. The more you drink the more your body will release the fluid. Another quick fix is to go for a long swim(if possible). The pressure of the water forces swelling out of your body.
