Mons lift/reduction

I posted this over on the plastics forum, but they don't get as much traffic so I thought I would post here too.  After a 220+ pound weight loss, I had a tummy tuck and hernia repair ( which I am currently recovering from), but my surgeon does not touch the mons pubis area.  I need to have this taken care of (all that weight loss and nothing from this area!) because it hangs halfway down my thighs and is about the size of a softball.  Talk about packing a pair!!!!!!!

I would like to know if anyone has had this done as a stand alone procedure?  If so, about how much did it cost?  What was the procedure like?  How about the recovery?  I am in the process of gathering info from plastic surgeons and hope to schedule some initial consults-although I have a lot of healing to go and would not have this done until probably August.  Any info you can share is appreciated.

Thanks is advance.

Im glad you posted this. I am sorry cant help you with the stand alone procedure, but I was debating on eliminating the monsplasty that i asked for with my up commng tt and ba.
I think I am going to keep the procedure to go with it.
It is an agrevating area and one that I dont believe is talked about enough.
It was difficult to find information on what "fixing" this area looks like
and what the exact procedure is comprised of.

I'm sorry, I can't give an answer to your question. However there is at least one other person (possibly more) on this board who has posted about having a large mons after weight loss, and I believe that they had surgery, but not sure if it was a "stand alone surgery". I'm sure they will see the thread and respond to it soon.

My question to you is did you notice that you had a large mons pre-weight loss?  Or did somehow after weight loss you notice this?

I knew it was large pre-weight loss, but until my panni was removed, I didn't realize how truly excessive it was.  My panni hung almost to my knees at one point. so viewing the mons area unobstructed was tough.

Personally, I knew before I lost any weight that my mons area was quite large... I just expected it to "shrink" better than it did...

Yes, I had a mons lift as a stand-alone procedure (well, it was done at the same time as my arm lift, but not with my panniculectomy or tummy tuck).  The plastic surgeon who did my panniculectomy changed his mind at the last minute and decided that he was not willing to do a self-pay procedure (the mons lift) at the same time as the insurance-covered procedure (panni).  He literally told me this in the surgical prep room!    I was devastated because, like you, mine was huge and even after losing so much weight, I still had to continue wearing baggy pants and tunic-length shirts to cover it.

Anyway, the surgeon's charge for the lift was $1500, but I cannot tell you what the OR or anesthesiologist charge was since I had the arm lift at the same time, so the bulk of the surgery time was spent on the arms.  My entire bill was a bit over $7500 for the two procedures (and the surgeon's charge for my arms was, I think, $5500... So that would make the OR portion about $800, but I also used a surgical hospital rather than a full-service hospital so the OR cost was much less).  Sorry, I know that might not be very helpful.

As far as recovery, I had almost no pain after the 2nd day (unless I actually touched the incision area) but I did have a large seroma that had to be drained every 3-4 days for a couple of weeks.  That was not painful but was just a PITA because my surgeon was 45 minutes away.  If I had not had the arms done at the same time, I would have been able to go back to work in just a few days.

You will want to ask the surgeons HOW they will do it, and to show you what to expect because I have seen some where the surgeon pulled it up way too much and it really looks odd!  Expect to lose a fair amount of skin (and pubic hair) from the top.  If you have additional questions, feel free OT PM me.

Yep, Lora. I knew that it was you and I'd figure that you'd reply to the thread soon enough.  Presently my mons does not appear that large, so perhaps I can get by after weight loss I just wanted to make sure that I didnt develop any problems in that area.

Thanks, Lora, for the info.  It gives me a general idea and a base for comparison to whatever info I get.  As I start to have consults, I will likely have more questions, so thank you in advance for offering to help further.
