I know how you feel I don't want to be in the hospital either and when I ended up there I was very emotional. I couldn't ge****er down or food. Call first thing in the am and I hope you get better. Let me know what the results are tomorrow. complications suck.

I think every day gets a little better for me.  Hopefully once your gallbladder is gone, things will get better for you.  It can definitely be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it's there.

Did you every think you would lose any desire for food?  I know I didn't!

It is weird how our sense of smell is heightened.  I swear I can smell a car with a bad catalytic converter for miles.  I could do emissions tests with my nose.  I seem to smell the bad things easier than the good.

What is your vitamin routine?  I suck at it because I can't take my synthroid with my multi or my Carafate for my ulcer, then I can't take calcium near the multi or Carafate either.  I have resigned myself to taking as many as I can remember, knowing that I won't get everything everyday.  I at least get one dose of Carafate, calcium, and multi each day.

I had a great NSV last night.  I had a realization that I could probably wear my favorite pj's.  I was right!

I am starting to have a lot of people at work notice and while there are some people I don't mind knowing, I really don't want to explain to everyone.  Any suggestions for when they ask how I am doing it?  So far, it has been "low carb" which is technically true.

About food I went from it being hard to control my portions to not wanting it at all.  I hear you about smelling all the bad things to strong and the nice things smell to strong. lol

As for my vitamins I sit down take two bariatric advantage chew, calcium chew, and D3 gummy. then I pick a time in the evening to take the other the bariatic chews, calcium chew and that's why I forget my iron pill.

Hi Allison!! Just noticed your comments. I'm 5 1/2 months post op...and take Synthroid as well. I had to start this routine:

Synthroid sits on my bathroom sink. I brush my teeth in the morning first thing (6 am)...and take it. My vitamins are in a pill organizer, I have a little capsul marked for each day of the week (Amazon.com 7$). I put that in my pocket and don't take my first set of vitamins until I sit down at my desk..which is 2 hours after I first got up. So multi, iron & vitamin C at 8am, then calcium, b complex and vitamin D after lunch. Sublingual b12 and multi again in the evening. It works wonderfully and my labs are great...including my TSH.

I think whatever you decide to tell people at work is up to you!! Its YOUR medical history, I wouldn't feel guilty at all. Take care!!

I'm not sure how much I can help but for me I really haven't had any complications... yet anyway.  But I also force myself to eat.  I stick to simple things like beans, tofu, cottage cheese, sometimes tuna or chicken with fat free gravy.  I tried smoked salmon the other day and did fine but I still am not getting near enough protein.  I'm averaging between 500 - 800 calories a day, usually on the lower side and I am getting barely 60 grams of protein in a day.  I can not stomach protein shakes ... once in awhile I'll try one just to get the protein but I end up with a sour stomach.  I also have not thrown up or gotten anything stuck.

I think once you get your gall bladder removed you will feel a thousand times better.

I was doing ok with some of those foods till I got really sick and ended up in the hospital so I ruined it for me. I have been trying different things but if the smell thing would just cool down it would help so much.

Hi - I had a horrible time with smells... any smells...even the smell of my shampoo upset my stomach....it was the worst thing I have ever experienced because I would gag when I smelled food so eating was very difficult. Like you, NOTHING tasted good. I constantly felt nauseous, light-headed, got dehydrated and ran a low grade fever for about two months. I had no energy and couldn't sleep. I remember asking my doctor and nut if I would even enjoy eating again.

The good news - it goes away. I found a few foods that I liked and ate them for sustenance. It really is a trial and error thing. I remember eating pureed bean with bacon soup for days on end because that is the only thing that tasted good. I could not stand the taste of artificial sweeteners so I bought unflavored whey protein and used small amounts of fruit juice or canned fruit to sweeten it.

Right now I am 8 months out and it was at about 4 months that I started enjoying some foods again.

I had my gallbladder removed in 2005 but remembered that I felt nauseous a lot of the time before they removed it. I am hoping that after yours is removed that will subside for you.

Hang in there and try different things. Eventually you find foods that work for you. Sending hugs your way. Pam

Thank you Pam, that's why I needed to hear other peoples experiences because I have to know that there is an end to this. I can't see it now or feel it so it really helps to know that it gets better for people. I have something to look forward to.

My gall bladder was removed during my RNY as it is a common problem that occurs after surgery.  I only like food when I am hungry and as soon as I have eaten 8 Oz of food I cant even stand the site of food.  I am about 5 months out btw.

 Hello,
Feb 25 was 3mths out for me wooowhooo...and I am happy to say NO COMPLICATIONS and soooo happy about that...I am guessing the gall bladder thing is what is holding you back...but I don't know..I am able to eat everything...but I haven't tried sugars or high sugar desserts(as that was never a problem for me) I am eating about 900-1100cal per day I have lost about 50lbs since my surgery...altogether 81lbs... just keep working at it, use your tool wisely and you will be fine! take care and all the best!
