Gall bladder surgery is kind of easy these days.  My 85 yo dad had it done last year (laprascopically) and he was back to normal within a week.   I would NOT let it go....it can end up causing you much more serious problems.

It is what it is - I understand it's stressful, but getting angry about it isn't going to help matters.  Accept what's going on and put your energy into finding the best solution.  Your health must come first.

Best of luck!  Let us know what's going on.

Thank you Irish. I know its not worth getting upset. Its just my nature. Especially when I have to do something I really dont want to. I have CIGNA and had to pay ALOT more money than expected for my RNY. I JUST payed the last payment of $800 on money. I dont know how to pay for this. I had ALOT of nerve pain after my RNY. They cut through some nerves by my belly button incison and it took 12 weeks for me to heal. I know they will cut by my bellybutton again and I am so scared Im gonna have that horrible ripping pain again.

I had my gallbladder out at the end of October and I moved house a couple of weeks later. It is seriously not a huge deal. There was minimal pain. Had my surgery at 3 and was headed home shortly after 6 with my son. Two days later the dog (about 60lbs) launched off my belly and it didn't even hurt. In comparison to RNY, this is nothing. You will feel better after getting it out.

I got gall stones about eight months post op, too.  My surgeon didn't prescribe Actigall for me and I'd never heard of it at the time so I didn't ask for it.  I'm sorry you asked and yours discouraged you from using it.

I will say that my gall bladder surgery was really easy for me.  It was outpatient surgery and I took one dose of pain meds that night and that was it.  A week after surgery, I felt completely fine, like I'd never had an operation.  If you can do your surgery soon, it shouldn't interfere with your trip in May.  Personally, I would want to get the surgery over with before traveling out of the country.  I would not want to be in another country and have a gall bladder attack.  The thing is, your gall bladder will probably start to give you more and more pain if you don't deal with it.  Unfortunately, it won't just get better.

I ignored mine. I had a stone get stuck in the bile duct. I became septic and spent a week in the hospital. Not fun stuff.

If the gallbladder is not removed, gallstones can leave the gallbladder and get stuck in the common bile duct, leading to pancreatitis.  Your gallbladder can get infected and perforate, leading to peritonitis.

Both are deadly.

Your call.

I heard you got a new kidney.  I am so happy for you.  How are you doing???  Are the immunosuppressive meds hard on you???  Do be careful.

I am so busy these days with school.  I am working on my BSN.  Five week classes back to back to back, with only a week off in between.

I hardly post on OH anymore, what with school and the Big Brother attitude here.  I tend to just lurk these days.

Hi Sharyn, I was just reading throught this post and I had a question. My Dr was aware that I had a few gall stones before my surgery in September but choose not to take my gall bladder out. He never does both surgeries together and because I didn't have symptoms he said I didn't need it out. He also didn't put me on the meds that prevent gall stones after surgery even though I asked about it, because he didn't think I would have any issues. So far he is right, but after reading your post it made me wonder.......even though I have no symptoms I know that I have some gall stones, is it possible for the things you listed to happen? OR would I develop symptoms first? It scared me a little!

You don't necessarily have to be symptomatic for it to be a problem.  But, at the FIRST sign of pain that starts right under the sternum and radiates around to the back and feels like you are being sliced in half, I would head to the doctor for a second opinion.
