well sort of.  There is a high incidence of gall bladder problems after wls (surgery.  )  I had sludge in mine so removal was indicated.  I had two ultra sounds a year apart and the firstbone showed no problem but the slushy food I was eating because of the band problems helped ruin it.

can you explain to me - you had your remnant removed to avoid hormonal  problems with grehlin?

I am not the one that 'had the remnant removed'  this was my surgeons call.  But in essence she does this because of the hormonal functions in the remnant stomach.  She told me that often rny is also revised later to remove the remnant stomach anyway. According to the latest research this has more to do with obesity and the success of weight loss than previously understood.  In fact if this hormonal component to obesity was well understood and a treatment developed perhaps a 'cure' for the causes of obesity could be found by treating the mal functioning hormonal functions in the food obsessed that lead to massive compulsive overeating .

OKay, I think what she is trying to explain to has nothing to do with hormones - some people that aren't successful many years after the RNY get a revision to another surgery called a DS or duodenal switch in which they remove a large part of your stomach called a sleeve gastrectomy making your stomach look like a long banana -  I am not exactly how they do it after an RNY since we already have a pouch - it is a very complicated procedure and there are only a few qualified surgeons throughout the country to do this revision.  This surgery has a super high malabsorbtion rate since they bypass even more than the RNY intestines - they use a different term = the common channel - they say how long is the common channel - different surgeons use different lengths to determine the weight loss and the amount of malabsorbtion.  You need to take an enourmous amount of vitamins  - many need to take 100,000 units of vitmain A and D per day and 2,000-24000 units of calcium citrate per day and there are many others like E,K, B12, copper, zinc, magnesium, multis

No I do not think that is what she explained at all because she used the words hormones, hormonal, and hormonal component at leasr 15 times during our consult.  In fact everyone in her office; the nutritionists and nurse practitioners all talk about the hormonl components and the lateßt research about this aspects of obesity and comupulsive overeating.

I hope it works for you because it has never been discussed before here on these boards before and I have never heard of it before. I have tons of hormonal problems and see an endocrinologist but dont' belief any of it has to do with obestity or regain

not 'those' kinds of hormones. endrocrinologists will not be up probably on th elatest research concerning bariatric surgeries and the hormonal component from hormones produced by the stomach.  'it' is working fine for me and 'it' has been researched to be why rny is so effective in treating morbid obesity.  I read about this issueall the time on this board.  If you wanr google ghrelin it may be interesting to you.

I have read about ghrelin and it ia very controversial and nothing is proven to be true. It is all still in the research stage.  I do know all about it and my Endocrinologist and surgeon do know all about. My Endocrinologist is up on alot more than most surgeons and NUTS - she is the one that does all my labs and I dont even have to tell her which ones to do = she know exactly which one to do and she even checked them for about 5 or 7 years preop.

I have my DEXA scan done in her office also - she also has a bariatric NUT is I need one

I am glad you are you are doing well.  I have one quesiton about your gallbladder - did you take actigall or uridisol postop to prevent the gallstones?  I know so many surgeons dont' give this drug out and I wonder if it is because they want to operate again or what?  I see so many post ops in surgery again.  My surgeon requires us to take it.

As far as soda - I don't know why they say it stretches your pouch = if that was the case, I would have a huge pouch and weigh 500 pounds - I drink atleast 2 cans of diet coke per day and have for the past year.  I started drinking soda at about 6 months out as soon as the bubbles didn't hurt anymore.  there is no way that some bubles can physically stretch an organ out.  they are just trying to psych us out to get us to stop drinking it.
