Yep, that's pretty deep.

When I was a kid, I would go down once a summer with my grandparents for a family reunion. It was always a lot of fun.

Cheese is a rare food in that it molds from the outside in instead of from the inside out.  That's why cutting of the mold is perfectly okay.  I know grocery stores donate foods close to their expiration to food banks.  It's possible that the block you got was in that lot and just slipped past the people sorting things.

I hope it was an over sight too by the pantry.  Yuck.  I have a hard time eating anything past the expiration date regardless of what it is an even if it is a day over.

My grandmother, and dad actually both used to just cut the mold off... Now, me, I just can't ...
I too would toss it...

Hopefully it was an oversight and not intentional.... But dang, c'mon! You would think someone would have paid attention to that!!

That's what I'm thinking, someone should have been checking expiration dates and stuff to make sure they food was OK to give out before giving it to someone.

Well - don't mean to minimize the issue - it is not good to give anyone expired food.  I don't think the folks at the food bank really check the dates.  They really expect the the places they get the food from to not give out 6 month old food.  The folks working the food bank are frequently volunteers and work their butts off to pick up the food, sort it into bags for families, register folks as they show up, and give out the food. Both my parents volunteer and they are 78 years old.  Their bank doesn't check every container for dates.  I'm sorry you did get expired food though.  I wouldn't be insulted though because I think it was an honest mistake.

I know that working with the Cleveland food bank for our free community meal on wednesdays at our church, alot of the food we get is past the best by use date.
We are allowed to use these items, but once it is opened we are not allowed to save to reheat or use for the following week. We can freeze things like ground meat that we have cooked.
I think that if your are separating and freezing there shouldnt be a problem.
I hope this helps you not feel so insulted. In the past 5 years we have never had a problem with any of the foods we have gotten.

Food panties aren't supposed to be handing out expired food. One of my sisters runs one through her job, and she's always checking the dates. Take it back to them ASAP!
