My PCP called me yesterday about the clearance letter I will need from her and she tells me that all she can put in the letter is that I would benefit from WLS.  However, the only illness I have is hypothrodism.  I am worried that because I dont have all these other things wrong with me that it will hold me back from getting the surgery. Please dont get me wrong I am thankful to not have other conditons, but I do have the condition of being over weight ALL my life.

Has anyone ran into problems with ins not wanting to pay because of not having other problems other than weight.

What are the criteria of your insurance company?  Usually if your BMI is 40 or above, they do not require you to have comorbidities.

I am curious, though, about why all your PCP can put in the letter is that you would benefit from WLS.  Why can't she mention your history of failed diets, how long you've been morbidly obese, or how you would benefit from WLS?

Criteria of my ins is BMI of 40 without other problems and im sorry i failed to mention that she is putting in the letter about me taking diet pills that i couldnt tolerant.  I guess I am just worried that it will never happen for me.  I have done WW and other diet plans in the past however they were not under the care of a Dr.

If you meet the criteria of your insurance company, then it will happen.  They have to pay for what is included in your policy.

I too am waiting. I'm doing my 6 month supervised diet. My policy says that WW counts for that, though I haven't done it recent enough for it to help me. Maybe your WW will help you.  Waiting is hard, no matter where you are in your journey. It WILL happen. I have to remind myself that too! Good luck!
