Alcohol after surgery
I avoid the stuff. I know a number of people that alcohol has become a problem for post-op. Not something I am willing to risk.

Ok My surgery was June 8th 2011 I had my first drink in October. WATCH IT YOU GET DRUNK REALLY FAST lol I have switched from beer to whiskey for several reasons
1. beer will bloat you and has the potential for stretching your pouch.
2. Whiskey doesn't have as many calories
I try to stay away from surgary frinks or drinks that have carbonated stuff in them.
I have been drunk 5 times since surgery ( Just about every time I drink)
you will find you are a cheap drunk and go easy till you see how you react.

I've seen too many post-WLS lives destroyed by alcohol. I have one 1/2 glass of wine a year, and that's it. I don't want to be another statistic.
Why do you have to drink to have fun? I still go to bars, clubs and drink bottled water- and have a ball! And the best part...no hangover the next day.
OMG the first time I woke up after a fun clubbing night and I was sober and felt energized by the previous nights workout (dancing) I couldn't believe how great I felt not to be hungover!
Some people post-op can handle their liquor, true. But, from what I've seen- they are the minority. With our re-arranged guts it makes it difficult, because you will feel "sobered up" really quickly, but the alcohol will still be in your blood.
My advice, wait the year, then give it a shot (a small one ;) at home, you don't want to get sick in public, yuk!
Alcohol is not going anywhere, and though it's a tasty toxin, it's not doing you or your weight loss any favors.

I have had alcohol post-op. Not much. A few sips of wine and I'm dancing on the tables. LOL!
Mocktails! Learn about them and drink them when you go out. But be careful. Many have added sugar. My reigning fave is cranberry juice and diet ginger ale. I have places I can go where the bartenders know me and have the ingredients to make this no-sugar added. You may need to build relationships!
Dave and Busters also has a "skinny margarita" that I've tried and is good.

for the real stuff, i had the "skinny girl white cranberry cosmo" recently and it was soooo good. tasted like a regular cosmo. bethenny frankel "makes" them, right now there's the cosmo, margarita, and sangria, and it looks like more are being added http://www.skinnygirl****tails.com/join-the-conversation
