My surgeons office does not participate in the discount dining card program. They dont believe the child menu options has the best nutrition choices for RNY patients ( which I do kind of agree ) BUT the card does allow us to get aa childs rate at buffet type restuarants , which HELLO we know how to make a nutrional plate there . My local buffet has crab legs , fresh shrimp , steamed veggies , broiled fish, and if you a lucky one and can tolerate it ,,, STEAK. So I didnt know if you have to get the card from your surgeon or if there was another way tiget it. In my area there is a large cost difference between 25.99 adult cost and 9.99 childs cost    Not to sound cheap but a buck is a buck   lol   Its not a deal breaker for me I would still go to enjoy being with family and or friends  but I dont eat 25.99 worth  at all.

If you google, you can find cards online that you can print out.  Or you can just make up your own.  It's not any kind of official program, it's like a made up discount anyway.  Some buffets will give you a discount, many will not.

I have only had to actually show a card once.  Most places will givve me a childrens menu if I ask.  Then I usually order an appetizer and forget the kiddie options.

we just dont go to buffets, we haven't for a very long time even pre op....we just go where i know i can eat something, which is usually steak or grilled chicken...we have actually kind of quit eating out, but once in a while we go for a treat, but i always get steak or grilled chicken, and take some home....we had company come in and we went to dennys...i got the pizza thing or cheeseburger pizza thing, its in the appetizer area, i ate half o it but not the wrap part of it.or the pizza part of it..just the stuff off the top..
so far the restaurants dont really have to honor any type of discount card, but most of the time they are willing to work with you, to get you the food that you can eat....i just dont expect the discount card..i dont ask....but like i said, we dont eat out that much any longer...

I am sorrry but I  dont' believe in them. I  could have gotten one but turned it down. I haven't been to a buffet since surgery 3 plus years ago even if there are good options because buffets just lead to overeating which is exactly what we are trying to learn not to do.  In restaurants, the childrens menus just have crap, we can order an appetizer without a card and if you order a regular menu item, you just bring home the rest for another meal or 2.  It isnt' fair for the restaurant owner to lose out because you had surgery.  believe me,  I am low income and I really need to save money but if I can't afford to pay the higher price, I don't go.  I personally love getting 2 or 3 meals out of 1 meal

I do understand about the overeating at buffets but since my surgery I cant overeat at all . I pay very close attention to what I eat . In my area it is just more of a social event to go , I live in an area with many new casino's and do enjoy going out with family and friends.I am proud of my choice to have surgery and dont expect restaurant owners to lose money because of my choice. I still go to many local restaurants and do order my food properly and take home my left overs. Just wanted to clarify my reason for asking about the card.   I also dont eat off childs menu choices ,I dont feel listings are great choices for me,, It was more the expensive buffets in the local casinos.

I got one, but honestly have never used it.  Never even thought about it.  I just go somewhere, make good healthy choices and bring the leftovers home.  Haven't been to a buffet since before surgery.  They never were particularly good anyway.

Pleae DON'T use those cards.  We have no right to ask for discounts just because we chose to have WLS.  We never offered to pay more for the excessive amounts of food that WE ALL could eat prior to surgery.

We had this surgery to make us "normal"  not to make us "special" .

You eat what you can and either take the rest home...or walk away from the table.  I  paid full price for buffets early on not to put away all I can eat but to enjoy the company of the people I was with...there are options for us on any buffett if you must go to a buffett.

Plus, why would you wip out a card and tell the world you had gastric bypass sugery.  It would be different if we were truly "handicapped" to ask for special concessions...but we aren't...we are formally morbidly obese people who chose to have life saving surgery for ourselves.  We have NO right to take money out of anyones business because of it.
