One Year Anniversay on March 8
I have had the pleasure of looking at OH for over a year now and I so enjoyed reading through posts of one year anniversaries, thinking that I would get there myself.
My surgery date was March 8, 2011. At the time of surgery I weighed 264 lbs and I am 5'7". My BMI was 42 and I had sleep apnea. My self esteem was very low. I wore a size 3X or 22-24. I have arthritis in both knees and the added weight did not help.
So today, I weigh 147.4. I am wearing a size med shirt and pants are an 8 or 10. I do not have sleep apnea anymore and now when I get corizone shots in my knees the shots last longer, usually up to 6 months versus the three months with the additional weight.
My/and surgeons goal weight was 157 lbs and I hit that between 7 and 8 months and then the other ten came off by my 10-11 month. My BMI is right around 23. I am in the healthy range on the scales now.
I can honestly say that I have had an easy journey, no complications. Surgeon said protein intake should be from 59-80 grams per day, very easy to do once I got through the first month and then I could easily eat 90-100 with the right food thought process. I put exercise into my daily routine but I did not go exercise with the thought in mind that I had to work out for an hour or an hour an a half, I did what I did mainly to just get into a routine. Drinking water was always easy for me so no problem there.
I gave myself 9 months before I would even try a food that was not a good choice, I have ate sugary foods/fried foods/pasta/rice and probably others that I am forgetting. The rule for me was no more than 10 grams of sugar at a sitting, so that might be a forkful of cake or a cookie or two so I never have dumped on the sugary types of foods, but I have had a couple of dumping episodes...(1) I had my 8 yr old granddaughter with me when I was 9-10 months out of surgery, we stopped at McDonalds, she wanted Chicken nuggets. My stupid thinking said,"oh chicken" , "I can have chicken". I had three chicken nuggets. Got home and I had to lay down and let the dumping do what it was going to do. No more chicken nuggests for me since that time. (2) the other night I had a green salad with mozzeralla cheese, chicken and a bit of thousand island dressing, the whole deal with that was not the dressing but I ate too much lettuce, filled the pouch up and I really thought I was going to die. So my portion was way out of control and I learned from that.
I hope all you new RNY folks are excited....the journey gets you right to where you are suppose to me.
I hope to post pictures.......still don't like my picture taken, I think it has something to do with my nose.
Oh should talk a little about saggy skin. If I was offered "free" plastics I would probably choose my thighs. Why? Well to wear dresses in the summer without hose, or wear shorts, a bathing suit. Now I will still do that and get over my fears of everyone is looking at my thighs...I'll live. My underarms are loose. My stomach did well.
