My Upper GI series today. I was very scared that I would  the stuff up.

Can anyone tell me what to expect on my first visit with the surgeon and Dietitian?

My first visit with the surgeon was for a basic physical and quick "how do ya do" with the Dr.  Phy Ass. did most of it and went over preop requirements needed before surgery would be scheduled.

The nutritionist went over my diet history and check to make sure I wasn't food crazy.  Talked about post op diet (minimally) and basically declared me cleared for surgery.  Not impressed with her : (

I did not see my surgeon until I had been cleared for surgery.  Dietician tries to help you lose weight before surgery for you and your ins.  Helps you to start eating more healthy.  Mine was good.  Nothing to it.

Ugh! I totally agree! That stuff almost made me vomit, but luckily, I didn't. LOL

My first meeting with the surgeon went well...we reviewed my health history in detail (he gives you a 9 page intake form at the info session, so you have it filled out for your appointment), talked about what surgery entailed, etc. He also runs the info session, so a lot of questions I had were already answered. He took my "Before" photo and promised I'd feel like a million bucks after surgery ;).

When I met with the dietician, we went over what a typical day is like for me--when I eat, how much, how fast I eat. They recommended that I do a food journal for three days before my appointment with her, but I didn't really need it. She answered some questions about what life will be like post-op, and gave me a handout about some tips to help me prepare for post-op life--eating proteins first, don't drink with meals--drink between meals, slow down my eating--use chopsticks if possible, small bites and chew well. I also started switching over to Crystal Lite, decaf coffee and assorted sugar-free drinks for variety.

I started ordering samples of shakes that my surgeon recommends so I can start figuring out which ones I like before surgery. I'm hoping to have surgery in May/June, so the dietician said we have plenty of time to get into a new mindset for post-op life.
