Starting today, I vow to excercise more.

I have been walking on all of my breaks at work since a few weeks before surgery but haven't added any real activity besides that, and I am almost 4 months out. I probably should have before now but oh well, better to start now than not at all, right? I mean the walks at work every day about 1.5 miles or so but my body now expects it instead of considering it excersize. I have an elliptical machine and a gym membership as well. Today I went on my elliptical for 10 minutes (Not a lot but I am going to work myself back up to what I used to be able to do) and I plan on going on it for atleast 10 minutes a day until i can go on for more.

Also, how do you all that do Zumba like it? Me and my mom were thinking of signing up for a 6 week zumba class at our gym but it costs extra. It looks so awesome so I imagine it would be fun once I get into my groove.

I didn't really start to exercise until about a year out.  I've been going to the gym at school and I can do an hour on the treadmill, stationary bike and rowing machine but the elliptical machine kicks my ass.  I can barely make it 5 minutes.  I can ride my bike for an hour, too, but not the elliptical.  If you can make it 10 minutes you are doing great in my eyes.
I don't know about Zumba except I tried it on the WII recently and I felt like a spastic donkey trying to keep up with the supposed easy level.  I sold my game after that.

Oh, the 10 minutes I did do kicked my ass! In the past I can start out for about 10 minutes and the most time I have ever been able to do it at once was 30 minutes and that was a stretch! I now can walk better because since I have lost some weight my back doesn't kill me like it used to. I will probably give zumba a try but only sign up for the one 6 week class to start with incase I hate it.

I didn't start exercising until I was about 3mths out. I just can't get with walking for anything other than taking a stroll thru the mall or getting from point A to B. So my $1,000 treadmill would have been a waste of money if my sons didn't use it. I absolutely LOVE zumba. After the first time I tried it I was hooked. I am up to 4-5 hour long  classes a week.

I hate walking but for some reason I can do the treadmill pretty easily.  I can even run a bit.  I was surprised that I walked 1 1/2 miles the other day.  I can barely walk two blocks unless, like you say, I am shopping or something.

I started working out about the three month marker. I used to just do the stationary bike, then I hooked up with a trainer who just kicked my ass. Now, several months later, I usually do the elliptical four nights for an hour, three spin classes a week, and just started C25K. Plus my sessions with my trainer and a boot camp on Saturdays.

God...I really don't have a life!

Man, I wish I had all that time! I will be making more time as I get more fit to do more fitness classes and other activities though.

Three months after my surgery I was sitting at home taking a serious inventory of my lifestyle choices. What I discovered about myself moved me to make changes in other areas of my life, thereby allowing me to make the time I needed to get to the gym. I dumped cable, stopped hanging out with certain people, took my gym bag to work so I wouldn't go home after my day ended (because I would dive into pajamas and not leave), etc. Changes weren't going to happen unless I made the conscious effort to make those changes. I made goals. Then I started making goals within the goals. I'm doing stuff now I never dreamed I would have been.

Goal setting is a great motivator.

My new treadmill will arrive in the next 30 minutes or so and I also vow to actually use it.  I refuse to pay that much for it to not be used.  I have a Bosu trainer and a stability ball, so from here on out, I will be focused on exercise.

Let's keep each other honest!  I will check on you if you check on me!
