Here I am..posting again.  Surgery is Monday...I have this horrible fear of dying.  Is this normal??  Does everyone have the same fear?  I am so scared that something is going to go wrong.  I feel like I am ready for the surgery...I can't wait to get started with my new life..but I just can't kick this stupid fear of dying.

Is this your first operation?  I was the same way with my first.  Several operations later -  nope.  They will monitor you very closely during the operation and it should only take 1 hour.  You'll do great.  Keep your thoughts on the new you!!

No..I've had two c-sections..one where i was asleep..87 & 96.  Also had a tonsilectomy in 92.  I don't know why I'm so scared this time.

So, you've been put to sleep before and woke up just fine.  IT WILL be okay this time too.  Maybe because this IS a life-changing surgery?  Point of no return?  Some of the old timers said they had buyer's remorse right after surgery.  Maybe you are having it early?  I LOVE my rny.  I wouldn't trade places with my old self - I'm happier and have more energy than anytime in my life!!  You will do great.  The doctor comes in and talks briefly with you before surgery, you have medicine that calms you down.  I was asleep before I went into the surgery room and woke up in recovery.  So will YOU!!!   Think about the bag you need to pack, the liquids you need to buy, the kids you need to be playing with (that might be a problem right after surgery).  Keep distracted if that will help.  The day of the surgery, time will past swiftly.  Before you know it, it will be over.           Best wishes

I think it's perfectly normal to feel scared.    Mine isn't til 4/30 and I'm starting to get scared.    But i look at it this way... This fear is what is going to make me do the right things afterward, for all the fear and pain ahead - I'm not gonna screw it up!   :)

Good luck.... I wish you much luck, much success and a super speedy recovery!

I know exactly what you mean by optional...I think that' why I'm so freaked out by this one!  Glad to hear it's normal.  I was beginning to wonder if I was so worried because "someone" was trying to tell me not to do it...

Its perfectly normal.  In fact I would be more concerned if you weren't nervous.  We all have those feelings.  But you will do great and good luck on your journey.

Just remember, you are in the hands of some great doctors.  From the moment you check in until the moment you check out, you will have highly trained people lookinig over you at all times.  Focus on all the good things that are right around the corner for you in your new life and the time will fly by.  I just got home from surgery on Wednesday and I couldn't be more impressed with the care I was given at the hospital.

I am scared too.  My surgery is on July 24.  I have a young son and I am just praying everything goes smoothly!  I had a traumatic accident in 2007 and many surgeries and now I get horrible anxiety before any surgery.
