my surgery is Monday too and it is very normal. I have packed my schedule today and tomorrow and I am hoping that will limit me thinking about it. I am just so anxious to get this over with and begin losing its hard not to think about it. I wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to hearing how you are doing.
Fear of death is beyond normal - if you did not fear that then I would be worried. So I think it is a good thing and you will be just fine.
I was freaked out too - even gave my hubby his to do list the night before just in case and he wanted to kill me right then - lol.
The morning of my surgery I still had the fear, but then the excitemnmet kicked in and over powered it. You can read my fears in a post I wrote HERE about the night before my surgery - you are not alone.
Good Luck !!!!

I posted this before but maybe it will help you. I was worried that when I closed my eyes to go into surgery it may be the last time I saw my wife this side of heaven. I attended a general session at the hospital with about 35 per-op candidates. I asked the surgeons there “Has anyone ever died on the table"? The surgeons there responded that they had done a couple of thousand RNY and Bands over 14 years and NOBODY had EVER died on the table. Only a few died and it was always because of some per-existing health issue or unforeseen things like stroke or heart attack that were not necessarily related to the surgery. My date is 5/9/2012 and yes I am still worried, but I have had two other non related surgeries this past year and I found out that they were both more risky than RNY, many common surgeries are statistically. I am more worried about the after surgery life and routine than the actual surgery.

My surgery will be in a couple of months (May) and I too have the thought of not waking up again. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone, and that it's OK to be nervous. I'm doing things to keep my mind occupied but the thought is there.
Praying for all, that our fear won't get the best of us.
I know that it's worth it, then we can help to encourage others when it's their turn

Looking forward to being on the Loser's Bench.
