Help...I'm in trouble!

Hi Joyce - sending a hug in thought! I was diagnosed over 27 years ago with severe persistent depression. I take my meds and see my therapist, and this keeps me doing well a lot of the time. I still struggle now and then. Like you, I would isolate when I was feeling particularly bad. It is a huge first step that you are reaching out for support. It's what I believe in and what I teach my clients.

The suggestions that have already been made are all great. I try to start my day off with a positive affirmation or thought or 6 (LOL). I get on the computer as soon as I get up I found this website that is full of great postitive stuff. And, the affirmation cards seem to speak to me. I choose one (or 6...LOL), read it and try to apply it to my day. The website is:

Another thing that I have/use when I need it is a CD set. One CD is self hypnosis and the other has subliminal messages to nature sounds. I started using it back in the 70's when it was on cassette...LOL. I use the subliminal CD at work or in the car, letting play softly in the background. At night I listen to the self hypnosis CD. I bought a pillow speaker, put the CD player on continuos play and fall asleep to it. The name is "Up From Depression." The link is below:

One other thing you might consider is having your medications reevaluated. If they are not working as well as you think they should be perhaps it is time for a change.

Welcome back! Remember we are here for you and you will get back on the right track for you.

Hi Pam,

Thanks for the links.  I am trained in hypnosis, but it never occurred to me to look for a cd on depression.  I'm going to buy the Cd and try it.  I'm also a believer in affirmations, thanks for the great link.

I'm feeling encouraged by the support I've received on here, and have had a really good day and have kept close to my goals today.  One day down!

Hi Rejoyce,

Everyone has given you such excellent advice. There's nothing that I can add to it. However, I just want to CONGRATULATE you on your 60lb weight loss! You have been sucessful. You are at a healthier weight. I'm sure your BMI is much lower. You've decreased the likelihood of developing other chronic health problems. These are great accomplishments. Please remind yourself of this each day. Also, i'm certain therapy will help you with the depression.

Thanks for the encouragement, Sadie!  I'm feeling very positive today and believe I'll make it one choice and one day at a time.
