For all of you out there that may have or have had gout flair ups i need your help. I have already tried 2 doctor prescribed medications the 1st one i was allergic to and the second made me so dizzy i couldnt move without vomiting. I have heard about Black Cherry extrac they actually sell it at GNC. I have had people sware to me it works im just wondering if any of you have tried it or know if we are allowed to take that (im 8 weeks out and cannot ask my doc because its a weekend and hes not on call). I would appreciate any input aside from ask your doctor.

It is worth a try.  I'm a believer in those sorts of remedies.  My daughter worked with a man who suffered horribly with gout...it was crippling for him.  His diet played a huge part in hi flare ups, but you probably know that.  I don't know anything about it actually other than what it is.

My father-in-law has it bad. And he changed his diet tremendously, cut out all the foods and drinks thatflame it up and it is way better now.

either black cherry extract or black cherry juice.  you can get it as a concentrate and mix it with water or another drink.
if you go to gout.com they have a list of foods to stay away from and foods to eat that help with the flare ups.
my husband has gout and we are working on controling it with diet.

Good luck!

You aren't using Tums as your calcium source are you? Calcium carbonate is not good for gout.
Things like black cherry are good for maintenance but you need to get over the flare. I have to take steroids..like a dose pack to get over a flare. I can't take the other prescription meds because of other health problems. It works great.

at my local ingles grocery store in the organic section they have black cherry juice.  All it is is black cherry juice.  Okay I did go look the juice has 25 grams of sugar in it.

My dad does the juice and will swear by it.  I would think the exract would probable better for you.

It works for my dad and his doctor is the one who ordered him to take it!!!!! and my dad does drink it for the flare ups.  its the only thing that works for him.  He drinks a shotglass full daily.  when its bad he does 1 in am and 1 in pm

about 2 months about I had what I thought was a horrendous gout attack for the first time.  My PCP put me on Colcrys but only once per day and it only helped alittle bit and she only gave me enough for 2 weeks.  Then she sent me to a rheumatologist to get a proper diagnosis because she wasnt sure if I had it - my uric acid was 7.5  but I have had high levels on and off for years due to dehydration do they always ignored it - no symptoms until now.  when looking at my toes - there was no redness and no swelling just some deformatie at the joint = so to me it looks swollen but not puffy swollen.  So, I went to the rheumotologist.  He also said he couldnt be sure but since there was no fluid, he couldn't test anything for a true diagnosis and when I had my kidney stones out, they didnt test them - they were blasted with a laser and that was 4 months prior, so things could have changed in those months.  well, just in case -he said the dose for my colcrys was wrong - he doubled it - he said I was supposed to be taking it 2 times per day. He also did xrays and said I have osteoarthritis in my toes which is why the bone is sticking out.  So, I increased tjhe colcry  and it seemed to help.  Aftr 2 weeks I stopped it and it started to hurt on and off but since I have trouble with low white counts, I was afraid to take it long term.  So, I decided to see how things went and within a few weeks the pain went away.   So, I still don't know if I have gout or not.  I guess I will find out if I ever get a bad attack again, right now my uric acid level is back to normal and maybe that is why the pain is better.

My dad has had gout for probably 40 years since I a little kid.  Since they cant prove I have it, they wont put me on alupurinol.

have your tried the colcrys?  IT does work.
