Had my surgery the 11th. I know it's only 3 days out, But the pain is bad. The gas is bad. and all I pretty much do is sip crystal light because I do not want to get dehydrated. But I did get in 1 ounce of tomato soup with milk.

I thought about switching to just plain water. In the beggening it tasted bitter to me. I had this sticky dry feeling in my mouth and I couldn't get rid of it. That's why I chose crystal light.

If your tongue gets "coated" and "hairy"  call your doc right away and get some Nystatin. It means you have a yeast infection in your mouth and it can spread down your esothagus.

Good idea to keep drinking to stay hydrated. Jello and Popsicles also help. Walking helps expel the gas, so don't become too sedentary. You just had your stomach and intestines cut, rearranged, stapled and stitched. It's going to take some time...ya know? Be patient with yourself.

Be careful with tomato soup. The sugar content causes some people to dump.Try to get as much protein in as possible You can add unflavored to chicken or beef broth for a boost.

Hang in there, it gets Better!

the first few days are pretty tough.  the only good thing i can say is that they calm down after a while.  keep on drinking as much as you can.  try to find something else to occupy your mind with.  strangely, watching the food network helped me a lot!  this will not go on forever!  you are on an amazing adventure, even if it doesn't feel so amazing right now!  welcome to the loser's bench.

Omg I watched food network the entire time i was in the hospital. It irritate my neighbors so i had to turn off the volume and turn on close captioning. I always watch it at home and watching it there gave me a sensation of normality. It was my anchor. I really needed it.

I was going to also comment on the tomato soup it might be better to do broths for a few more days. Sometimes dairy creates some gas pain too but gas x isa God send.
Walk walk walk I had horrible gas and it was embarrasing and painful and in the beginning I NEVER trusted a fart...lol...
Also on tomato based products I use them a lot bu****ch the sugars in them. I use tomato paste and add splenda sometimes.
That first week is miserable but it gets better. Make sure to do your fluids and hang in there it gets better.

Walk...it moves the gas around and makes it easier to expell.  Early out I used a heating pad on my belly.  That seemed to help a lot.  Try to stay away from things that have sugar alcohols in them for a few days.  The sugar alcohols in sugar free products are notorious for causing painful gas.  I would switch to water, broth, or hot tea with stevia.  When things settle down in a few weeks you can bring back the sugar free stuff with Splenda in it.

I'm heating up the broth now. And I switched to plain water. Thank you all for responding. It really does help.
