I am 7 months out and finally the pain is starting to subside in my tailbone.  I assume it was the padding going away that started the ache, but I can't explain why it is feeling better now.

So hang it there - it MAY get better.  It sounds like it doesn't always get better.

As the muscles attached to your tailbone gain in strength, your ability to sit without sitting directly on your tailbone improves. As your tailbone is out of the line of fire (or being sat on), it starts to heal and the inflammation in your posterior begins to heal.

MOST people have enough musculature so that time, and pain, will encourage that muscle to become stronger and work the way it was designed. I was the unlucky one who had a completely atrophied tailbone muscle (whatever it is called)
