Surgery is only 9 days away :) I am scheduled for surgery on April 30th! I can't believe only a little over a week and I will be having surgery. I am still trying to lose some more weight before the surgery. A liquid diet is not required, but I think I am going to give it a shot for the next 9 days! Any advice?

Remember to walk alot after the surgery . I mean while your still in hospital. It helps with recovery and to go home quicker. Dont push yourself and it is very normal to feel a little depressed the first week or two when you realize you cant eat what your family is eating, but when you see the scale it is all worth it. Good luck.

Thanks! I am having a laproscopic gastric bypass. One of my friends had the surgery on April 2nd with the same surgeon and she went out for fried fish the friday before her surgery. I don't know why either, but I have not been to good about following the pre-op diet since I got a date, so I am trying to just lose a few more pounds!

Yeah for the upcoming surgery!  I suggest you drink protein drinks and eat lean protein.  I did not need to lose wt prior to surgery.  Some surgeons I considered told me that I would not need to do the liquid diet.  However, my surgeon has his patients do 10 days of  protein drinks with one small meal that includes no fried, fatty or sugary  foods.   A couple days prior only the protein drinks.  This shrinks the liver and makes his surgery easier.  My husband feels my outside incision healed so fast because I had the protein right up to surgery.  We have to get in as much daily protein as possible after surgery for healing as well. (This being the hard part for me.)  I've heard post op Drs say a pt was not healing on schedule because of lack of protein.  I'd had zero post op issues.

Same here, KB! My surgery is 4/30, too! I am so excited and I'm in prep mode, almost like when pregnant women have that "nesting" instinct. I want to have my house as clean as possible (which isn't easy w/2 little kids) and have everything I will need after surgery here at my house. I am required to do a liquid diet before surgery, which I started today. I can have up to 6 protein shakes and clear sugarfree liquids. He said I can also eat fruit if I get really hungry. We can do this!

I started this thing in January. I have been working with my NUT from about March 1st. I have lost 24 lbs on a 1400 cal a day diet. My date is May 9th and I want to lose as much as I can before. I am going to do protein shakes in the morning. A “Health Choice Dinner" at noon and then another protein shake at night. Should be less than 800 calories. My surgeon does not require that except all liquid the day before, but he encourages me to lose as much as I can before surgery. I would really like to be on the table at about 275 lbs and I think I can. That would only be 8 lbs in 2 and a half weeks. A friend of mine did the same thing with the same surgeon and has done wonderfully.

My surgery is Monday the 23rd. I am so very excited. I am on a protein shake for breakfast, and one for lunch with a lean protein of 4 oz for dinner. And can add vegetables as much as wanted. It also says if I am having problems I can have yogurt or cottage cheese. But have not needed them.  Last week was very very hard. But this week has been much easier. I read last night that it takes approx 2 weeks to detox from carbohydrates and sugar. And I think I have finally done that. Yay. It will make the time after surgery so much easier. That first week was like I said, really hard!
