I tried some from the store before surgery and I did not like it.  If you are counting on the straw thing to get it down you cant use a straw after surgery.  I like the baratric advantage except the strawberry. I do still want to try the orange cream tho.

My surgeons office requires that you buy a $150.00 starter kit with protein shake packets, vitamins, b-12, iron, and multi-vitamins and the shaker.  Looks like you are using the same pratice I used so you will more than likely be required to buy the starter kit.

If you are like others and myself you will not be starving after surgery.  I am not hungry at all, but I do know what I have to consume to stay healthly so I made sure I get what I have to down.

Let me know if you have any other questions.  Good Luck!!

Oh Gosh! I'm glad you told me that!  I would not be prepared for it...I've not worked in over a year and why I'm so desperate to have this surgery. I need a job ASAP!   I am beginning to wonder if the scheduler is going to call me today.  She had concerns with my prior abdominal surgies and wanted to check with Dr. Hart....guess I'll be ringing her up tomorrow.

I've had a lot of luck with "Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein." you can pick up a 2lb tub of it at Walmart for under 15 dollars. They make a Chocolate/Peanut Butter flavor that's really yummy. Not quite a Reese's cup, but still really yummy.

When I came back to my surgeons office after one week post-op, I had lost 32 lbs. I was obviously thrilled, but also a little concerned. I was assured that, while unusual, that was completely fine. I'm 5 weeks out today and have lost 61 lbs so far. The first big spurt was fluid weight. It just depends on how much you have to lose and how you do with food intake. If you still have your gallbladder, make sure to take the meds they prescribe you. Losing weight really fast WILL cause gallstones. I've heard those are NOT fun. Seems like you're right on track though. No worries (and congrats!).

I had my surgery on May 2nd and when I went back on my 1 week checkup I had not lost any weight yet.  I was very disappointed.  I thought I would have lost a few pounds and I am doing everything by the book too.  I also bought protein shakes at GNC I bought the very berry flavor and it tastes really good.  I have not tried the ones from Walmart yet.  I am at the pureed stage now.  Any tips would be appreciated.

After one week you may still be retaining water from the surgery.  Don't sweat the scale AT ALL right now, just give yourself time.

I thought I was doing something wrong since I hadnt lost any weight yet, but I didnt think about it being fluid.  I guess that is a good point.  Thanks for the info.
