Period question...
I had surgery one month ago today (dropped 40lbs as of this morning) :) . I started my period yesterday and it is by far the worst period I have ever had. I went thru a whole box of super Plus tampons yesterday. It's nothing I need to see a dr for...I'm just wonderIng if this is common after the bypass? They did give me shots of blood thinners while I was in the hospital but that was a month ago. I also wondered if maybe my hormones were out off wack because of the weight loss. I haven't even had a real Period in over a year.

Im not too sure why this happens.... but I also think it has something to do with the surgery as well. I am on seasonique and should only get 4 periods a year. I had my period in February (as a matter of fact i got it the day of surgery..figures right..lol) so i shouldnt have one until May well i had one in March and now i just finished my April period yesterday. I dont understand it. I keep taking the pill and just keep getting my period. Mine are also heavy and i have to change a pad an hour..by day 3 and 4 i have to stay in bed and stay laying down.
Good luck to you..

Did anyone mention to you that you may not absorb the pill any longer? Hormones based meds to not react on me at ALL.I have 2 kids to prove this..I knew the pills would most likely not react so I went to the Nuva ring..Baby number 1..I then had the Mirena inserted..Baby number 2..Theya re 20 months apart.. Just be careful... :) I got my tubes tied after the last baby. I knew i was done (they are babies number 4 and 5) I had 3 kids prior to RNY...

rachel05... i was thinking that since we dont absorb pills well anymore that it was probably why but just wasnt sure. I also am done with having kids ( i have 3 girls already) and certainly do not want anymore. I am trying to get my hubby to go get a vascetomy but i dont think that is going to happen...so i guess i will make an appointment with my Dr and discuss having my tubes tied. not that i want to go thru it when it is easier for my husband but i just DONT want anymore kids.

Baby's 4 and 5..Sammy and Nicky were HUGE suprises.. First off I was recently divorced.. My boyfriend was told several times by different docs that he has less thena 2% chances of ever fathering a baby.. I guess Sammy is the 1% and Nicky is the other 1%..LOL We got married and are making ago of things almost 6 yrs later.
My ex had V..after our 3rd baby. I was very sure I didn't want any more kids also.
God had other plans I suppose. It's very intersting.. In march 9,2006 I was due to have a hystrectomy. I had inter uterine fibroids. Several opinions hsaid a Hystrectomy was needed.ok lets do it. In Feb 2006 i began having upper belly pain. Usually only during bowel movement, weird huh? Long story shortened..I had moved to GA and could not find a doc willing to treat me.I was 3 yrs post op,from RYN that was done in PA. So onto PA..I canelled the hystrectomy and scheduled exploratory surg on march 9,2006,where they found a hernia and repaired it. I came home.My hubby sorta went nutty and we divorced(remember shortened story :)) I got preg that Oct..They did my first US in Nov and no fibroids were found..none,nadda,gone..Justa healthy lil baby was in there.. Talk about davine intervention..An emial woulda worked,no need to give me a hernia..LOL
I took BC pills for yrs between and before kids.. Apparently hormones are like fertility drugs for me..LOL

If you havn't had much of a period for the past year, be prepared for it to be heavy and long.
Even though you weren't getting a period, your body was likely still adding to the lining of the uterus (can't remember the actual name). It now needs to shed the lining.
I have PCOS, so I've always had wonky periods. My Gyno has me on birth control to regulate them. A couple of years ago, my mother was ill. she was in and out of the hospital for 11 months before we lost her. It was really stressful, and even with the BC, I did not have an actual period during the time she was ill. After she died, I joined a weight loss centre, and as soon as I dropped about 20 lbs, my period started ... I think it was the combination of no stress and losing weight that caused it to start. Right from the time it started, it was extremely heavy. super+ tampon and pad every hour, sometimes more often. After a couple of weeks, I went to the doctor. I was so drained of energy, and the flow wasn't any lighter, and large clotts had started. I was very scared by what was happening. He tried different medications to stop my period, but basically my body had to get rid of all the excess that had built up. After a while, the flow stopped, but I still had issues with clots. This went on for almost 4 months. The Dr. requested abdominal and transvaginal ultrasounds, and after almost 4 months, the lining of my uterus was still 6x normal thickness. We finally got things under control, but if I miss more than 2 periods, I have to go back to the doctor for tests, etc.
I doubt your issue will be as severe as mine, but if it continues for an abnormal amount of time, SEE YOUR DOCTOR! heavy bleeding like that will zap your iron and other levels. Being post surgery, it could cause you serious issues.
I'm still pre-op, but this is one thing I've already talked to my doctor about, and he is anticipating me having similar issues post surgery.

I agree with the other ladies.. It's ix of the blood thinners, the lost of the hormones ect. They may even prove to be heavey from now on. I'm 9 yrs post op and I'm very anemic, mainly due to my cycle. I wouldn't worry just yet,but keep it in check and def mention it at a check with your surgeon.Congrats on the loss, good for you!!!
