How do I make a protein shake without all that AIR in it?

I have a problem.  When I make a protein shake and add anything solid to it - ice cubes, fruit - it gets super-foamy when I blend it.  And then I can't drink it until the foam goes down, which takes several hours.  Needless to say, this is very inconvenient.  What am I doing wrong?

Example:  I mixed 1 scoop About Time birthday cake flavor, 1 cup skim milk, 2 T Torani SF caramel syrup, sprinkle of cinnamon and 1/2 banana.  Blended for, I don't know, 60 seconds?  Foam city!  And my pouch does not do foam.

It's the brand of protein you are using.  Some foam a lot, some a little.

You might try putting everything in the blender except for the protein powder.  After fully blended, add in the protein powder and mix on low for a few seconds.  That might produce less foam.  I've never tried it though.

Hmmm, I do the same thing, and I don't have any foam- oh but I add ice...maybe that's the difference? OH and I use almond or coconut milk as I'm lactose intolerant.

Good Luck,

I hate the foam so I started using the hand held single blending stick...works much better for me

Try blending everything first, without the powder..then add it last and blend on the lowest speed possible. As stated above, some brands do foam up more than others.

I only use my shaker bottle because the blender makes mine foamy.

the brand i use is syntrax nectar (it's lactose free, which is why i chose it) but the thing i LOVE love love about it is that you stir it up with a spoon... and then let it sit for a minute or three.. and all the little lumps just dissolve away!

no blending for me YAY

good luck though - i hope you find a way that works for ya

I use Unjury protein powder and use a little blender and add ice to it so it makes it like a shake, nice and thick and no foam.  Almost thick enough to eat with a spoon.

I can drink them with the foam but prefer not to, so I make mine up the night before and it sits in the fridge overnight.  In the morning I can add whatever else as far as flavor and just stir it with a fork, add ice and drink.

I have been making mine with the single serve blender by Hamilton Beach from Walmart  - $16 and never have any foam.  Here is my recipe

8 ounces of milk - I use lactaid FF
2 tablespoons of SF chocolate torani
5 or 6 ice cubes
1 1/2 scoops of chocolate protein - GNC ProPerformance 100% whey protein
2 tablespoons of SF chocolate pudding powder
1 sliced banana

Put it all in a blender for about 45 seconds until smooth.  I  occasionally open it up and find I have to scrape the sides and mix it up with the spoon and reblend for another 30 seconds and it is always perfect.

It is a delicious chocolate milk shake with 45 grams of protein.  it never has any foam

I have never tried it in a full size blender - I just bought one
