Adventures With Chicken

Tried eating chicken again earlier tonight. Moist dark meat this time. I have still spent the past 3-1/2 hours with my head hanging over the garbage can. Finally accepted that I can't eat chicken of any kind. Don't know if this will be permanent or not. Will try again in a few weeks. So far the only meats I know I can eat with no problem are Cracker Barrel meat loaf, deli ham, and Hormel turkey chili. Sometimes I'm tempted to just eat cheese and be done with it, but I've discovered that I kind of like turkey chili!

Hope everyone is enjoying a good start to their weekends!

Well, there is still hope for chicken, Trianni.  It's early days yet.  There are things I couldn't eat at 4 weeks that I can have with no trouble now.  I am about 3.5 months out and I ate beef jerky today (Woot!) Then again, I still can't eat eggs unless they are boiled.  Go figure.

More meaty ideas:
-lean ground beef or turkey sausage with spaghetti sauce (my favorite)
-taco-seasoned meat with salsa and a little Greek yogurt - maybe layer it with some refried beans and low-fat cheese?
-bean or split pea soup with ham
- turkey smoked sausage (Jennie-O makes a lean variety)
By the by, what are the stats on Cracker Barrel meatloaf?  Sounds naughty.

I am sorry you are having a terrible time but trust me it does get better. Nik put up on her blog on how to marinate chicken to achieve true moisture. Visit http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/ and scroll down. I couldnt stand chicken in any format because it was to tough for my pouch until i marinated the chicken with yogurt. Plus i think you should wait a few days before you try it.

I'm over a year out and chicken is still not my friend.  I can sometimes eat chicken that has a gravy or sauce, but beef or pork is a better choice for me.  As much as I liked it before surgery, I'm doing fine without it.

Dennison's brand makes a very good turkey chili as well. I had to chuckle when I read your comment about just eating cheese and be done with it...I feel the same way with soup! lol

Hopefully we will get better with foods in the future.
