Birth Control
I have recently had the mirena put in and so far I'm pretty happy with it. Other than some mild discomfort during the insertion and a day or two after it's been pretty good. Also it has a tendency to completely stop your period in about 6 months of use..I'm so freaken excited for that to happen.
I would think any type of birth control that is not 'swallowed' would work fine, the depo (once every three month shot) or the ones they put under the skin, IUD's or the flexy thing...lol I forget the name of it, the one you put in once a month.
I wouldn't trust any oral contraceptives.

2 forms of Birth Control, I cannot stress this enough. I got pregnant about 17 months post op, complete surprise for me, I planned to wait until at least 2 years post op. I started out on Ortho (pill) and about 2 months prior to getting pregnant I switched to the shot. I was on the shot and we used condoms and I still got pregnant. Apparently it takes 3 rounds of the shot to be most effective.
For me luckily my pregnancy went great, no problems with the baby but had I gotten pregnant any earlier out from surgery there could have been problems since our bodies go through malabsorption if you get pregnant too soon the baby could be malnourished as well.

I would also like to add to those talking about the mirena, I had one inserted 6 weeks after having my daughter and 4 months later we could not find it. Be sure to check for your string every month following your period. I went through ultrasounds and finally an xray to be sure that it didnt grow into me, but it is in fact gone. I had a heavy period the month prior followed by a shorter period 2 weeks later, so they only thing we can figure is it came out then.

I had the Mirena put in about six months prior to surgery and have had it for a total of just over three and a half years. I love it! My periods are pretty much just spotting and I love that I don't have to think about it for five years. At each of my annual exams my doc has told me it is where it should be and looks fine.
