Oh when you limit what you can eat the cravings are gonna hit. It's only natural!

If you aren't on solids yet, finding an alternative might be tricky. But later on down the line check out something called "Queso Frier" or frying cheese. Most Latino markets sell it and some grocery stores that serve the Latino community. It's a thick, mild, buttery cheese that, when you fry it, becomes crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside just like grilled cheese. It is WONDERFUL!

As for the right here and now...I might go with something like some no-meat chili with a bit of cheese on top. That might satisfy the salty/cheesy cravings.

are you on full liquids or are you on a soft diet? My Dr. started me on a soft diet on my 3rd day out and so far I've had eggs w/cheese, soup, cottage cheese, ricotta w/marinara, tuna salad, chicken salad, sugar free pudding. Can you have any of those? I also had 2 frozen meatballs (really small, like the size of a quarter) w/a little marinara. I know all doctors' plans are different. Mine starts us on soft foods early because he believes is lessens the risk of developing a stricture.

My surgeon also starts soft foods on Day 3 if there were no problems on the clear liquids Day 1 and full liquids Day 2. She does it because she has found that people have less trouble with tolerating foods if they don't "baby" their pouch with an extended period of liquids and purées.  I had not thought of the stricture issue, but I guess it does make sense that sending chewed food through it every few hours might help keep the stoma open (as opposed to liquids and puréed things that just slide through).  I do remember my surgeon talking about how very rarely she encounters strictures (she made it sound like a quite rare thing, so I was surprised to see so many people here having trouble!), so perhaps that is also part of why she has the advanced food plan.

I have to say I know your pain.. I had surgery May1st- and am just to the soft pudding stage- and I want everything! I see it in TV I start craving it- I do like egg beaters with cheese- and I use a whole piece of Kraft single with my little serving of eggs- It helps with the cheese craving.

And as far as your dehydration- keep sipping BUT Ensure just came out with a clear drink that has 7 or 9 grams of protein!!! I am so excited- I am going to buy some today- so I can sip on it and get protein too- (I am not to keen on the protein shakes either- I force myself to drink it.. which makes it worse)

Keep me posted on how it goes- we can give each other ideas on what to eat since we are close in stages.

OHHH and it sucked that my birthday was the 11th and couldnt eat cake or ice cream

Are you actually hungry or is it just head hungry?  Head hunger will get us thinking we actually hungry when we are not.

Just my experience and I know everyone is different, but I am 17 months post-op and I have NOT yet expereinced any real hunger, but fore sure I've had head hunger.  I eat only cuz I know I have to but if I didnt set an alarm to remind me to eat I could go days without eating cuz I am never hungry.

I'm six and a half months out and I don't feel hunger either..apparently I'm not going to. Weird to go from a person who was ALWAYS hungrey to this.. Lol
I hope you find something that helps with the craving! I know it's hard in the beginning .
