4 months out and having trouble

I am sorry....I am a little confused... was this post directed at me and if so why???
You're not being attacked & you are being oversensitive. Take a deep breath. You know what to do. You can totally do it! You can! We have all struggled but you have to make a decision to take care of yourself. In the beginning, I had 6 alarms on my phone that went off when I needed to take vitamins or have a protein shake. I had another alarm that went off every 5 minutes to remind me to drink water- every 5 min all day long! The truth is that maybe all these posts are your wake-up call. There is no magic. You have to make a decision, make a commitment, and do it. This is the first step in that process so if it hurts a little well, then maybe that's a good thing. You need to change and it's not always easy. Take the support & a little ass kicking and get mad and say-- I'm going to kick my vitamins ass! I'm going to kick my proteins ass! I am going to repost on here and, even though none of us is perfect, I'm going to tell the world that I'm doing it one day at a time!!! I believe in you! You're already there...take a deep breath and realize that this is your life...and you deserve to take the best care of yourself you can! You can do it!!!!
You aren't being attacked.. come on we support you, we are trying to help you!! If we didn't care we wouldn't even respond! My theory is if I didn't take my vitamins early out everyday I sure wouldn't take them the farther out I was from surgery! It has to be second nature. I used to have an alarm on my phone, then I had an alarm on my outlook at work. Now I just take them without thinking, I fill a weekly pill pack and bring it to work and it's in my desk and when I get to work I take my multi/d3/b12 and 2 calcium chews... 2 hrs later I take 2 more calcium chews.... at lunch I take another multi and 2 calcium chews and then before I leave work I take my iron (I used to take it before bed but I kept forgetting!) You can do this!! You have to, we are all doing it together!

Thank you Ladies. I agree with you both about the vitamins. I knew going in that this was for life. I can make excuses all day long but in the end they are just that, excuses.
As for the protein, I have tried bars and the ones I tried didnt agree. I feel alot of things are my head when it comes to things agreeing or not agreeing because I try to make myself eat high protein things that I dont want to eat and then get an icky ouch but I dont know how to stop that.
I can do some jerky but only if its not real dry. Last time I tried almonds they didnt agree at all but that was a few months back. I am going to try sf pudding with protein powder and sf whipped cream. Heres to hoping it works.!
I appreciate all your advice and will let you know how it comes out!!
Thanks!!!

i agree with the others...if you are not getting your protein in ..DO THE PROTEIN SHAKES. it is better than not gettting it in at all. I have a protein shake every morning for breakfast since i was NEVER a breakfast eater. It is easier for me to swallow liquid and not chew in the morning. Also make sure you go get those vitamins..they are crutial to this surgery.
Good Luck to You

This is my opinion. You need the protein. If you cannot eat enough, then why not drink the shakes? What harm is there in doing that...drink the shakes and get the required protein, or not drink the shakes, not eat enough protein and suffer the consequences. That does not make sense to me.
You are right where I was, but thank goodness my doctor did not limit me from drinking shakes. I have changed from eating meat, almost exclusively, to not eating much at all. I now eat more vegetables and fruit. At 30 months post op, I still drink shakes each and every day to supplement my protein. Some days my shakes, beans, cheese and yogurt are my only source of protein with everything else being vegetables.
As for vitamins....they are non-negotiable. I stopped taking calcium during year two because I could not resolve my constipation issues. I slowly began laking fewer and fewer doses until some days I took zero calcium. I was good with my mult and B12...but not the calcium. Then my teeth began to hurt. They became very sensitive.
When I had my well-woman they said it was time for a bone scan. The last one I had was 3 months before my RNY. At that time the results were excellent...always had been. When they wanted to do it about a month ago, I did not feel like taking the time. They could tell I was hesitating, so the nurse said, "No big deal...we'll do it next year." I paused and then remembered how much my teeth were bothering me. So I told them I would go ahead and have it done.
Well...sure enough...I screwed up. The change was significant. I am bordering on osteoporosis in my spin and hip. STUPID ME.. Seriously. I have no excuse. We can suffer long term effects by not supplementing. My GYN said I had to get my daily calcium NO MATTER WHAT.
When I could not find a shake I could tolerate and could not eat meat my husband spoke to the manager of a GNC and explained the issue. She told my husband I better suck it up and find a shake I liked or I would lose my hair. She had seen it happen to other RNY patients.
So....if the only protein you can get in is in the form of shakes, do it. I would never advise anyone to do something against medical protocol advised by their doctor I cannot believe if he really "heard" you that he would not, under the cir****tances, permit the shakes until you can consume more meat or other sources of protein. There are toooooo mannnnny doctors who have their patients drinking protein shakes long term.
Don't make the mistake I did with your supplements. You have lost an amazing amount of weight...congratulations. But if your body does not get the vitamins, minerals and nutrients it needs, you be begin to experience the consequences at some point down the road.
