"She said that the partner did in fact lose patients on the table like my surgeon said and mine hasn't but that doesn't mean he won't have a first!"

This was the single dumbest thing that RN said.  Being the partner of a surgeon who has lost patients says nothing about the surgical skill of YOUR surgeon.  It may not even say anything about the surgical skills of the surgeon who has lost patients.

And the comment that your surgeon "hasn't [lost a patient] but that doesn't mean he won't have a first" can be said about every single surgeon who has never lost a patient.  This RN seems to have some strong biases and is giving advice informally that she is not qualified to give and for which might well lose her license were it to be given in a clinincal setting.

So long as you've done your homework and understand the risks and have decided that they are less than the risk of remaining obese you are ready.  Don't let this RN and her scare stories deter you.

When it comes to the Bladder Catheter... I hate them! I have an issue with not having control of my own bodily functions. I have had 9 open abdominal hernia repairs, 2 with such severe infection that I had to be left open for 18 months and pack with wet to dry. Every single surgery I asked for the catheter to be removed with the promis that I would get up to go potty. At my last visit to my surgeon before surgery I also asked if he would PLEASE remove the catheter before he woke me up and promised I would get up and go. He asked me why and I had to admit that I was unsure why but I hate them and it makes me angry to wake up with it. He did just as I asked and removed it before waking me. It made things much better because even if I felt blah and wanted to be lazy and not move I had to get up and move. I made myself a routine while in the hospital. When I had to pee I also did my 2 to 3 laps around the floor and did my breathing thingie. They want you up as much as possible but my nurse was fussing at me cause when she left I was walking and when she came back the next day I was walking. She came in my room and told me to go to bed. She said I was the most determined patient she had had in a long time but if I didn't get some sleep she was gonna bop me on the head lol
