Problems Eating Whats wrong?

I am now 6 weeks out and having more trouble eating than at 3 weeks out. I cannot consume enough protein/foods to meet my protein and calorie goals for the day. My nut said I should be taking in at least 600-800 calories a day. I can only eat about 275-500 calories a day if I eat protein first. Its not that I want to eat that little, but I can only hold so much. Also, I had 3 episodes last week after eating a few bites that was horrible. Terrible, terrible pain lasting for hours, thrown up a few times and then felt better. If I puree my food, it goes down better. My weight loss has stopped, I guess because my body has gone into starvation mode. I am really trying but just can't meet their goals. I was hoping that last week was a fluke and this week would be better, but not really. My hubby went and got me some KFC mashed potatoes last night just so I could log something for dinner because the soft dinner that I tried to eat wouldn't go down without pain...only a few bites. Is this a sign of a stricture?
It COULD be a stricture, but I think if it was (I had one three times), even pureed wouldn't go down. Some people have to take it slower. Stay on pureed for a while longer, maybe, and then try regular again. Also, when you tried the regular, did you do tiny bites and chew REALLY well? Having said all of this, you may want to call your surgeon's office and get checked.
Well, I don't know if it's a sign of a stricture or not. When I was at your stage if I had pain it was because I ate too fast.
I was also still on mainly pureed foods at that stage. Cottage cheese, greek yogurt, refried beans were all things easier to chew really well and not give me trouble.
How much food are you eating at a time and how much fluid are you getting?

My surgeon has had me on regular foods for a little over 2 weeks, before that it was soft foods. I chew really well. And if I don't get this terrible pain, then I get a full feeling after a couple of bites. I stop and wait and then try to put a few more bites in. I know I'm supposed to stop as soon as I start feeling full. If I did that, I wouldn't even get 100 calories in per day. I am mostly meeting my fluid goals. My nut thought I should see the surgeon to rule out any problems. If this continues, I will be seeing him this week.
I definitely think seeing your Dr to rule out a stricture is warranted. Having said that, I was not able to eat much still at 6 wks. I relied heavily upon my protein drinks. I had no appetite and when I did eat ...I frequently got sick or the food was cold. If that is indeed your problem, it should get better. I can eat (and want to) a huge variety of foods. Keep us posted.
