We road trip at least once a year from Kansas City to Florida and a few of my fav on the go protein and snacks are:

Sunkist chicken pouches they have several flavors, don't need refrigerated and can be eaten with a fork out of the bag.

Sugar free pudding cups they store well in the car

Turkey snack sticks the ones I buy are 50 cal 3 gram fat and 7 gram protein per stick they do not need fridge and are soft not tough and chewy like beef jerky.

Always a jar of peanut butter and little pita breads

The other thing I always bring is Splenda, crystal light packs, and bottles of water.

Bringing these things help me to resist the temptation to eat crap from the gas station and fast food places. It is much easier to say no when you have already invested money and time in planning on the go snacks, they are ready to eat, pouch friendly, and protein packed.

Have fun on your trip :)

Last weekend, my family and I spent the weekend at Six Flags in upstate NY.  I'm only 5 weeks out and was on pureed food.  I took a cooler along and stocked it full of chicken salad (I added some grated cheddar and finely chopped green onion), refried beans with cheddar cheese and hot sauce, cheese sticks, yogurt, sugar free jam, and protein shakes.

I bought a bunch of those little Glad storage bowls that hold 2-3 ounces and I was able to make individual servings for convenience.

You probably won't be able to take refried beans because you probably won't have any way of heating it up while on the road, but you could always take cold cuts, salads, things that will be okay to eat cold.  Oh and make sure you have plenty of bottled water in the cooler too.

Oh and I would even have some hard boiled eggs in there and/or egg salad.  Buy some bibb (Boston) lettuce and you can make little lettuce wraps.

Don't forget hand wipes and paper towels!

I travel a lot for work and left on a 7 days trip to DC.  I was almost 5 weeks post op and I have food anxiety since almost everything I eat has to be refridgerated.  I pack my lunchbox for the airplane and then drove right to the grocery store once I arrived at my hotel to pick up deli meat, cheese, mini rice cakes, and sf pudding.
