Pain site of prissy pouch
I'm five years out and have done well. However, have let my diet slide recently like drinking coffee, tea, chocolate, etc. Now I might be paying for it. I've not had diet soda at all, and only an aspirin once in a blue moon. I take lots of meds for interstitial cystitis, and blood pressure which leave my pouch semi-hurting.
Have any of you had pains at the pouch site and what have you done about it? Any comments will be appreciated. My surgeon is in another state so going there isn't feasible right now.
Thanks, folks.

I have had a very picky pouch since my surgery. It took a long while to tolerate food with any texture, and I don't expect to be able to tolerate caffiene or aspirin ever. I've just finished another round of tests, so I know my specific pain is not my gall bladder, or an ulcer (my doc is very thorough).
To help the pain, I take my acid controlling medicine regularly (eg Prilosec), I stay away from acidic foods (lemonade, coffee, chili etc), and don't drink caffiene. I cut my portions down, so I know I'm overfilling my pouch. I find that some crackers make it feel better, if I only eat 3 or 4 individual crackers (like wheat thins) an hour for 3-4 hours. Then I wait an hour, and start with clear liquids. If I do this, my pouch will settle down.
Once it settles down, I work my way back up to regular food, starting with protein shakes, then adding some finely ground meat etc.

Thanks for responding. It looks like you are doing very, very well with the surgery. I just called the doctor's office and have an appointment today. This has been going on for over a year and now I'm alarmed.
Good for you figuring out what is going on and finding a solution. Keep up the good work.
