Migraines

Anyone here get really bad headaches and/or migraines?

I used to take ibuprofen, and as long as I took it right as the headache was coming on, I could prevent a full blown migraine.

For the past month, my PCP has prescribed Fioricet.  I know it has a little caffiene in it, but to me, the risk outweighs the benefits.  I can't function without this medicine.  I'm also taking a very potent medicine that is causing these headaches, and will be weaning off that medicine this week, so I assume the daily migraines will stop.

My insurance doesn't want to cover the migraine medicine.  I'm fed up and ready to go to the ER in the morning.  See if they like that bill rather than paying for the medicine.  But figured I'd try to ask you guys if anyone takes something ELSE prescribed for migraines that works well?

Feels like there's an 18 wheeler on top of my head right now.

I used to use Imitrex and it worked very well for me.

Have you tried any meds to prevent migraines?

I get daily horrible awful no good headaches

Since I'm on a pain regimen (for a different reason) I use my narcotics when it gets very bad. My PCP prescribed me a medicine that *IS* an NSAID but he suggested that the benefit, in a REALLY bad migraine would outweigh the risk. He gave me three samples, and I used them up, twice for bad but not REALLY bad headache, and once for a "I want to chop my head off" bad migraine. Interestingly to me, the mild headaches weren't touched by the medicine, but the massive awful no-good headache was almost instantly cured. My insurance won't pay for that either... not unless they change the prescription to a 3-month supply, and I forgot to mention it when I was at my ddoctor's office today.

Right now I'm weaning off ALL my pain meds, so I'm trying to tolerate the pain, at least until Tuesday, when I'm having a procedure done on my neck.

Prior to my surgery I had three to five migraines a week. Life was hell. Post op, i've only had five migraines. In two almost three years. I'm amazed, and pleased.

I have taken the fioricet. It worked great for me each time I had one.

I hope you can get some relief.
